I don't have a Torin. I think you're overpaying there. Look to HF or Grizzly. And if it doesn't have a bed winch you will hate your life. The 50T HF used to have a bed winch included, dunno if it does any longer. Northern used to sell the 40T Arcan for a good chunk of change and then you had buy a winch kit for another couple hundred if you wanted it. Otherwise they're all pretty much the same.........I mean Torin isn't exactly a model of high end quality...........so it's all chinese steel, chinese welds and chinese cheap hydraulics.................all of which will likely work for your intended use; my 50T HF works fine for as little as I use it.

Yep, I'd do this at $700 all day long over paying a grand for that Torin

Even after HF's (generally very reasonable) truck freight - - assuming you don't have a store nearby - - I bet you'd save $$ and get a slightly bigger and arguably better press

edit: and it comes with some pretty damn nice arbor plates too, not the thin cast chunk from the HF 20T's of old (in fact the bed is so deep the 20T arbor plates just fall thru, I know 'cause a friend tried to buy me some at HF once as a favor)

I think you would like the 'air over hydraulic' feature. I have an HF air over hydraulic bottle jack and that is nice. It does seem odd, though, that they don't include a winch or something for moving that support bar.

The press is to be used by me in a pro shop. The shop has a 20 ton cheap h frame press at the 2nd shop and I hate it, embarrassing that they don't have an OTC at least 40 ton. ..any way that is for another post..this press by northern tool it does have a winch and love the design of the arbor plate. The online picture is not the same as the one in the store. It doesn't look cheap so it may have a good CL resale value or sale it to the shop. I didn't know about the HF 50 ton press none of the Houston stores carry it so I will think freight will kill me but I'm going to check it out..thanks guys.

I'm confused but no matter. Freight should not kill you, virtually no stores stock this. But HF started a program several years ago where they're supposed to bring in "catalog only" items to the store with no shipping cost. Just like other retailers: free ship-to-store. I can't find mention of it on their website now, so not sure if this policy is still in place.

Incidentally, if you have it shipped it looks like you're just facing the standard $6.99 plus an additional freight charge of $89.95. Yep, I ran thru the cart and it's $96.94 to have it shipped to me. According to the website you can return it to any HF store within 90 days of purchase for full refund or exchange.

I need to talk to a HF store see if they still that policy, $89 is not bad. @ign I have used a screw type press from OTC is great but I have to support China at this time is not shop equipment so I don't need something that will last forever probably sell it in 1-2 years..

So it took 'em a week but HF finally got back to me. Apparently they no longer ship orders to retail stores to save on freight:

"Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your recent inquiry.

We do not ship orders to any of our Retail Stores. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We greatly appreciate your business."

I bought mine used from Craigslist best $200 I spent in a long time

At work we have a 25T OTC press. Somehow we got it without the V blocks so i had to bring mine from home. ("work" press was a hand me down from another garage) The boss looked at Grainger, I looked on Amazon and Ebay... what is so special about the V blocks that they cost $400 and up by themselves??

I dunno, what's so special about a 25 ton OTC that it retails for $2600? Unobtanium?
