40% vs 100% silane

Hello I am planning to seal my concrete driveway using a silane sealer.

what are the advantages of going with a 100% silane product (e.g PS109 from ConcreteSealersUSA) vs a 40% product like PS 105.

Is it dangerous to work with solvent based products like the PS109? I am new to this. Would prefer to have a unsealed driveway than cancer

Look for products that include fluorine. Formula 137 is our product, there are others.
It will last longer and does a better job displacing water, organic stains and even oil.

It's VERY expensive and therefore not used in most sealers.

Silane sealers are typically used on very dense concrete. Examples are concrete columns, precast concrete, large parking garages, bridges, etc. The molecular structure of Silane is very small and designed to penetrate better than other sealers with a larger molecular structure. This also helps to protect moisture from reaching rebar and ferrous materials within the concrete for such structures. Rust expands and can cause severe damage.

Concrete used for driveways is generally not as dense. They have a more porous nature, though there are always exceptions. When Silane sealers are applied, they tend to travel too deep within the concrete and do not provide nearly as much protection at the surface, which most homeowners are looking for. It would require multiple applications to build up to the surface to be most effective.

Silane/Siloxane sealers are one of the more common choices for use on driveways. The addition of Siloxane does not allow the sealer to penetrate as deep and results in better protection at the subsurface and much more water repellency.

I would recommend giving them a call during the week to discuss. The knowledge they impart to a potential customer is quite good and they excel at qualifying customers with the right product for the job. I wouldn't be surprised if they suggest their PS102 for a driveway over a silane sealer.

This could be a good solution for my garage. I am assuming oil will never punch through ballistix. How long can oil sit on ballistix before it will discolor?

The product will not discolor or change in any way with water or anything else on it. If you pour water on it it will remain clear and just evaporate and leave the residual minerals in the water which can be wiped
up with a rag. When tested with battery acid the same thing happened. The acid did not discolor or change the surface and it eventually just dried into a crust which wiped up.

Thank you for your response. I use my secondary work garage only during summer. The old vehicles I have in there tend to leak oil. If I don’t clean it up during winter (say for 6 months) the oil will not discolor the ballistix? That would be awesome.

No oil and long term exposure has not shown to affect it. Please make sure to allow the product to fully cross link for about a week before it would see any spills.
