I have plans to reconstruct a barn, into a 40 x 24 tandem 4 car garage.
Garage doors on the 24' side.

Would that fit 4 big cars (SUV's) 2x2 nicely???

I'm limited by the town on what I can do.

I have a 24 x 40 garage, with the doors on the 40 foot side - I think that would work a lot batter for you to contain 4 vehicles, if you can do it that way. Going the other way as you have planned there's less than 40 feet total inside, so divide that by two and you have maybe 19 feet for each car.

here's 40 x 40. Going 4 wide and still opening the doors would be tough. Especially if bigger SUV's. There's 2' between doors.

Should work, but just barely. The longest SUVs are around 228". 2 of them bumper to bumper are 38'. Subtract 6" wall thickness, makes the interior of the building 39' except the garage door is mounted on the inside of the opening and with the support ribs will be at least 4" deep. So theoretically you have 8" to spare, which implies 2.67" spacing between the vehicles and the front wall and garage door. It will be tough to park with clearances this tight and you will not be able to get around the vehicles with the garage door closed, unless you crawl through the passenger compartments. Even with shorter SUVs you'll only have a little over 2' of spacing to use between the SUVs and wall and garage door and still be effectively relegated to crawling through the vehicles to get from side to side in the garage when the door is closed.

I wouldn't call that nice, but to each their own.

I'm very limited due to strict building codes, and a preexisting building. I think I will fit 1 suv, and 1 car on each side, and then it should be ok. 2 suburban's tandem may not make it. But a car & suburban will make it.
