DAY 1:Just broke ground today on my 40x32x12 today, footers all dug and concrete will be here tomorrow!! First swipe with the bucket and we hit a pipe of unknown origin ended up being an old terracotta pipe that was not used any more, thank goodness! Inspector was out this afternoon and signed off, next inspection, the framing.

Is the block layer striking the joints or is it not common practice in your area? I've seen a few block foundations on here where they do not strike the joints.

Looks like a considerable size hump in the opening. I am assuming it was either a step in that area or they did that do get one side even with the other. The hump will be covered by concrete but my concern would be the right wall is higher than the left, or the left door opening will have to be adjusted to the right walls height. If it was me, I'd run a transit all around the perimeter block height to see if it is all the same height.

There was a step in the footer that caused the hump and I have already told the contractor to bring his laser transit to check the walls to make sure there is no difference side to side.

Day 10: back filling and grading just about complete. took 4 loads of fill dirt so far and still need 2 more, took 7 loads of stone to bring the inside of the garage up to floor level, while he was here with the skid loader I had him re-radius the existing driveway and put in some of the extra stone, this will get paved when everything else is done, also having the side built up to park my 30ft enclosed trailer next to the garage.

Congrats on the baby boy. It looks like he won't have any trouble finding a decent ride to take to the prom :)

That was a lot of block for that build. Keep up the good work. Are you framing it yourself?

Nice job on the garage and I'm sure on the baby boy. That's great!

I'll have to look you up if I get up that way. I'm in AA county but get up your way a few time a year.

Looking Good! Mine is just barely ahead of yours at the moment, but your contractor should pass me in progress today as it me, myself and I doing most of the build, with some help from friends and family here and there.

I like the higher foundation wall, 2x6 framing and attic areas - all things I would have done myself if I had the funds and wanted to go through the hassle of hiring an architect and working with the county to go that big. As it is, I'll still have the second largest garage on my street - mine's 24x24, and the largest is 26x26.

I'll be up towards your direction in Harford County in a week and a half for my VW club's annual show. It a really laid back all aircooled VW show with camping the night before and some stuff to entertain us on Sunday and generally hanging out on a nice October day. No drag racing like most shows as it's on some guy's private property - just a big open field near Rt 1 and Rt 136.

I used to be very big into old V-dubs I know Jim Judeikis real well, I drove him and his wife in my Cadillac for their wedding.

I'm actually trying to get my last VW back form the guy I sold it to 11 years ago, It was a 63 type 1 he bought it and put it in his garage and has not touched it, in fact the title is still in my name!

Cool! I guess we're closer than 6-degrees from Kevin Bacon. Jim started the club (Slowriders), so I know him. This summer I met a guy that just got back into VW's by buying a 73 (?) Super off of a local dealers used lot, and then re-met the buyer of his previous car at a show out in Frederick. I was talking with him at the show and he looks over and says -Hey, there's my old car! If you're interested in our show, it's on the 10th and 11th (10th for camping overnight, main show on Sunday) and the details are on the clubs website - http://www.slowriders.net

OK, now we KNOW you're a BONA-fide garage junkie. You got a new baby, and all we get is pics of the GARAGE!?!?!

Of course this is EXACTLY the kind of thing my wife would comment about MY doing...

LOL and the funny thing is when we got home from the hospital I went right out to get some pics and my wife did not say a thing!
