Day 17 part 2: roof is done except for the ridge vent, the back wall is sided and has a window installed, one garage door is done and the tracks are up for the other, at this pace they should hopefully be done by the end of next week.

Day 20: All siding is done, floor is poured and windows are all in only thing left to do is, gutters, staircase and floor in the loft and some minor trim work, the rest will be up to me, not sure if I want to use liner metal on the ceiling and dry wall the rest or just do all drywall, my neighbor is an electrician, so he is going to help with the sparky stuff. I did spend all day moving the excess stone around to the trailer parking pad next to the garage, will post updated pics tomorrow.

Wow, that is a nice garage! I do like the storage upstairs too and good for keeping some of the stuff from crowding the lower area.

I would suggest waiting a year or two before having the paving done. That will give the fill a chance to settle.

There will be a regular walk up staircase in the back corner up to the middle on the man door side.

Thanks. I'm building a 30x40 very similiar and am a little concerned about the space taken up by interior stairs. I have considered interior, exterior, and Bessler pull down. That Bessler is nice but over two grand!! It looks like the interior is what I'll end up with. When you do the picts, try for one of the way they did your stairs. THANKS! Bill

Here are some pics of the inside and the loft area, the gutters are the only thing left for the contractor to do, and then the fun begins!

brassspike, I tried to get a few different angle shots of the steps:

Ok.... now you made me think I should've gone with the stairs inside rather than outside... they don't take up as much room as I thought, still lots for cabinets and such.

Great build zombiescustoms and congrats on the newborn :)

I talked with my neighbor who is an electrician today and he will be coming over this friday to help wire it up, (and pull the permit) and I got a quote from a local insulation co to supply and install the insulation, that is cheaper than I could buy the insulation itself! so it looks like I wont be getting my hands dirty till I start doing the walls and ceiling finish work.

Update: Garage has passed the structure inspection, we dug the trench yesterday to run the electric, put in the box and wired it all in about 12 hours, it started raining so could not refill the trench, that will be tomorrows job, I put up 10 medium base light fixtures, in which I plan on putting 250 watt equivalent CFLs, right now I have 100 watt incandescents. there are 4 lights upstairs ans well as two going above the garage doors and one next to the pan door. the insulation gets done next week, and hopefully the white metal ceiling will reflect some more light downward!

Nice looking! Those CFL's are bright once they warm up! I have seen 500 Watt equivalents I thought and they were just TOO bright!

Very nice job!

Hello Zombiescustoms, I'm having a 24 by 24 foot garage type structure erected beside my house. It has a 14/12 pitch roof and therefore a very usable 12 wide, 24 long and 8 feet high space on the second level. The building is roofed, sided and waiting for its poured concrete floor. It's looking amazing but I'm driving myself crazy on how to access the second floor from inside the building. Have been looking online at Bessler one piece pull down stairs for the past week or so but just found your Garage Journal album and thinking maybe I shouldn't give up on the idea of fixed stairs! I have 10' 3" floor to floor. Could you tell me what is the width of your stairs and dimensions of treads and risers? I'm assuming you also had trusses 24" o.c. from the looks of things, which means that you apparently cut one of the trusses to lead the stairs into the upper floor. What sort of header construction or other structural solution did you use to compensate for cutting the truss? A terrific building! Hope to hear from you so I can figure out a solution and put my mind at ease on this problem.

Very Nice Build!!!! I am looking at building about the same size in Ohio, except I have to brick my exterior (That should add a few grand)....

Can I ask about how much you have in it at this point of the build? I want to get it to where you are right now and then continue to finish the interior over a few years to spread the cost out.

Thanks,
Brian

Gregz I have the bessler pull down stairs in my home. They work great and are very sturdy. The only bad thing that I can see is that they are only 19 inches wide. I was thinking about one for the new garage BUT...over two grand!! and I felt that I might need something wider for garage storage.

Sorry for the time lapse, the stairs are 36" treads and ended up about 42" overall, the truss is not cut just doubled and then one left out to make room for the staircase, no other changes were made.
