Is $40 to much for these?
Craftsman 6 pt sockets, 1/2", 3/8", & 1/4" drives in both standard & metric.
A boy down the road from me is interested in them but he acted like it was highway robbery.

They're 6 point, easy read sizes, USA made. $40 is a steal. The kid down the road is a cheapskate, lol. Tell him to go and drop $100 on a new Chinese set at Sears.

$40 bucks is less than half of what that would go for on Ebay, if in fact they are all US-made items. (even if it's "G" or "EE" code stuff)

obviously the neighbor boy hasn't done much price shopping.

Clean and Armour All the case......and re-show it to him. :)

As has been said, nice $40 USA-made tools.

if its a kid maybe clean it up with something real quick

he might not have an eye for looking through some use/wear

my guess is those will clean up with a quick shot of

h20/wd40/contact cleaner etc

That set of USA cman is worth $40

(unless something is very off with them)

That's nice set as 6 point, and not much filler items. Good thing also that you can use BETTER ratchets than the old RP C-Mans !! ;)

Well worth $40 . . . or even more . . . if you replaced missing pieces.

I didn't think I was out of line, and that damn look he gave me like I had 3 heads.
Maybe I will shine them up and sell them to his neighbor who he hates :).

It is more than I would want to spend, but it isn't highway robbery by any means.

This looks to be your set, plus a dozen wrenches and allen keys, for $90 new.
http://www.kmart.com/craftsman-165-...W005441923001P?prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3

But those are a 6 point/12 point mix, so the kid would be better off buying the OP's $40 set of 6 point and then spending the $50 on a set of Gearwrench ratcheting wrenches and a HF Pro composite ratchet or some other brand. :) Those CM RP ratchets are yucky.

Like others said, some people lack imagination as to the inherent qualities of items. It's all about how "shiny" stuff is with some people. Shoot some Armor All on them and give a quick wipe to shine them up.

How old is said "boy down the road"? Just for perspective....I mean 5.00 to my 5 year old is a HUGE amount of money, in his mind $40.00 is what a new truck costs..:bounce:
Its your set, do as you wish, but if the kid is a "Good" kid and the tools will mean something and be put to use, I'd personally take 5.00 and trade some work or something for it... Most kids wouldn't even ask for it, they'd be wanting a new game controller or cell phone.

When dealing with kids I use a sliding scale of "Care" & Discount...I had listed some Carbon Fiber SO Graphics on Facebook, 13 year old had messaged me for them, I ended up saying to him "pay the postage and there yours as long as you send me a pic of them installed"....he mailed me a 5.00 bill and a couple days later sends me a pic of it installed in his bedroom...

like others have said. clean it up a bit and maybe fine the missing sizes if you have them laying around and it should be an easy $30-$40 bucks.

He's in his late 20's, a kid to me. He's kind of a nice guy, hard worker with a nice house and cars and a knockout of a wife. I guess he's cheap or hasn't priced tools lately.

ROFL.....Disregard my previous post then :D
He's an adult... :wtf:
If he's got nice stuff, I'd say one of the previous posts is right...clean the case up, wipe things down and **** 40 bucks no problem. Some people cant see past the dirt & grime.

If he gave you an attitude like you were trying to rob him, I wouldn't reward him by lowering the price. lol. He has a hot wife to bang every night to make up for it.

Some people are just whacked out in their perspective and knowledge of prices. My idiot brother spends $1,800 a month on rent but has no tools. I showed him my small box of trunk tools, and I told him they were only $200 or so, and he responded with: "well some of us are not rich enough to have such expensive luxuries like that!"

Dump them in a flat rate box with some other packing materials to keep them from breaking out, throw away the case, and ship them to me and I'll pay $40 plus the shipping. It's a great deal on that set.

If I recall; WV Neighborhood codes to not obligate A Person to sell items at a reduced value to One's Neighbors..... It is nice to give someone a ride; but You owe it to Yourself not to be taken for a ride..

Keep an eye on craigslist and he's probably right he can get the set for 15-20, doesn't mean your set isn't worth more or can't be sold for more. May just mean he has the time to wait for a bargain vs a deal. Or he realizes the value of the ratchets and is deducting a storage or disposal fee for them.

Who knows?
That dude is hung up on the slightly dirty appearance of the kit.

If I needed a set of sockets, I'd call that a GOOD deal any day of the week.

I wouldn't drop the price a cent for him.

I guess his time isn't valuable if he has time to fart around for a month or two checking CL just to be able to keep from giving his neighbor a super fair price for a set of great sockets.

I've never seen a set like that for 15-20. Usually they are 60 at least.
