Thinking aboout upgrading from my porter cable pancake. Is this a nice upgrade,its older but was taken care of. I want to run it on 110,he said it pumps up in about a minute. How loud is it and how much should i pay? Its a upright style.

You will have to provide either a picture or a model number on the Speedaire.
there was a thread comparing a number of the 25-30 gallon 110v compressors and had timings from empty to pressure limit switch kickoff (some were 120psi, some 150, etc). i don't think the smallest one at the lowest pressure was less than 5 minutes. its simply not possible for a 110v pump to fill 40 gallons to 100+ psi in less than a minute, at least as far i've ever heard of. hell, most 240v pump wouldn't be able to do it...
still, i think speedaire is generally a quality compressor. if its in good shape, its probably a good piece of equipment. definitely need at least some pictures but preferably a model # to give more useful feedback..

1 minute to pump up sounds fast to me also. I want to look at it in person. I have a picture and will try to post it,if I can transfer it.
He's probably talking about how long it takes to pump back up once the pressure switch trips the compressor on. Not how long it takes to go from 0 to 120 psi. One minute for that would be a bit more believable.
Could be terra,we only talked shortly on the phone,not sure on the spec or #s. I will post a picture.(its not a close up). I mainly wanted imput on the brand and how loud it is as well as a price. Thanks for any imput guys!

As far as I know the speedaire compressors are pretty solid units. They are still available through Grainger. Without knowing the specs and the condition it's difficult to put a price on it. Most of them I've seen tend to be older ones and the price reflects that. I would think $350 would be on the high side of things.
If it's a belt driven oiled compressor it should be relatively quiet.

The pump on that is a replacement, actually better than the original Speedaire pump.

its all about cfm, also running horsepower. my 60 gallon Ingersoll rand is a single stage 5 horsepower. it peaks at 13 HP.
Went and looked today. The kid said he would take $100,I'm sure it's a good buy. I want something in better condition,the hunt will continue. It did run nice but it's in need of attention. Cord was bad,pump leaking and the head had a broken ear. Also had a missing cover on the motor.

Pump leaking? Depending on what that means I would say it is well worth 100 bucks and I don't know what you are expecting but I hope you plan on spending a lot more money if you are looking for better.
Well I would say $100 is a good buy. The pump was leaking at the base that's what i mean by a leak.The head had a crack on one of the bolt down bosses. I will find something I really feel good about before buying. The price started at $200 the $150 now $100. I'm not trying to find the deal of the year here just a clean unit.
I would pass also (even for 100). I had one that looked identical to it. I don't know if they've changed the looks much, but the one i had -- was 11 years ago and it was old when i got it. That tank is probably due to rust thru any time. Mine did. I mean, it was a great compressor, and i used the heck out of it, drained the water daily, and it was probably close to 30 years old when it finally gave up and rusted thru. Unless they have changed their looks over the years, i'm guessing that one is over 20 too.
If they still look the same now, and you could verify the date as being a newer one, then i'd say it's probably worth the money. There should be a manufacture date on the tank plate.
Mine is still in service, (well, sort of). it's now the firebox on my trailer built smoker, and when i cut it open, the small spot that rusted through, was the only spot in the entire tank that was even close to being thin. the rest of it was still fairly clean. i was surprised.
(and, i agree-that's not the original pump.)
