Anyone have experience with these? Any other brands to look at? I don't see needing many other yard tools but like that it's a pretty extensive line. I'm just getting tired of having to fix something every time I use my 20 year old 2 stroke. I'm a Milwaukee fan but I don't know about going with 18v when most of the other offerings are much higher.

I was in the same boat as you a month ago. Bought into milwaukee but thought, wanted electric and thought i needed more than 18v. I then saw the bogo on the milwaukee tools and took the plunge. For me the milwaukee has been more than enough. I live in the suburbs on a standard small lot. It's exceeded my expectations for battery life and performance. I even trimmed last week with a 5.0 and didn't go through the whole battery.

I'm eager to hear others experience on the ryobi just because i don't think many of the reviewers on hd.com have the same level of expectations as i do.

There's a few good offerings. Ego, Echo, Husqvarna. I personally have the Ryobi. I don't think many of the other cordless brands do the modular system or they are locked to their own system and add-ons are expensive.

The ryobi has been around a while so refurbished may be available too.

My FIL has one for 3 years. He was just showing it to me the other day, as he purchased a matching blower on sale at HD to go with it recently. One charge on one battery weedwacks and blows his 50x100'property--twice.

I was also wondering about the difference between the regular trimmer and the one with the switchable attachments. I already have a corded blower and pole saw. Cordless would be cool but for as little as I use them I would probably spend that money on something else before replacing them. They have the switchable one refurbished so the price isn't much different.

As I said above, get this one if you're not gonna work it HARD. The greater RPM works much better. $119 online. The VALUE of Ryobi's 40V line is impressive

I really don't know how anyone likes the dual-line Xpand-it head, although I will concede it technically works.

I was typing my last post before this came up. That was my thinking between the thread you linked to & past experience of a dedicated tool doing the job better.

Milwaukee has a deal in a few places, Home Depot being one - that you can get the Milwaukee string trimmer, 9.0 amp hour m18 battery (about 45 min - 1 hr runtime) fast charger, and a free Milwaukee blower for $299.

I think other places offer the same deal too online.

That 9.0 battery is $165 by itself.

The Milwaukee deal is basically the same price if you bought the Ryobi trimmer and blower together.

Says out of stock online. You can try the store.. hd has both the blower and trimmer deal as free tools.. that's $150 savings. Other websites have the same promo I believe.

Blower deal

Trimmer deal

Milwaukee always seems to have the best sales. They have other promos with the single tools and additional 9.0 battery as a deal too

I BELIEVE - the higher voltage options come at a cost of lower amp hours - which is what provides your runtime. The Ryobi 40v is only 2.4 amp hours from what I see. Ryobi and Milwaukee are both owned and made by TTI. Milwaukee is the premium line.. pretty sure it's a safe bet that they wouldn't allow the Ryobi to outperform their premium Milwaukee brand. Check out the Milwaukee thread, lots have jumped on this deal and everyone is saying they are impressed.

Even with the Ryobi being on sale, it's basically a wash if you include the second tool like the blower, plus - you get the m18 battery which will work on your other tools if you have m18 stuff.

Also, the Milwaukee string trimmer offers two speeds along with the variable trigger, Ryobi is a single speed variable trigger. And the Milwaukee uses the thicker line, the Ryobi takes thinner.

Lastly - THAT MODEL Ryobi, uses a single line head.. the expand it version looks to use a double. The Milwaukee is a double line cutting head.

Good Milwaukee video review.. I think the tool speaks for itself.

Full disclosure, obviously most people on here know I'm a big Milwaukee fan, but - I tried to find a good video of the single line Ryobi 40v, but there aren't many since most of them are of the dual line expand it variation, and two of the single line head vids I found show the Ryob's head smoking lol. So I won't post those..

Eh. Ok - I'll post one -
