40x30 siting and driveway

Been playing with this for a couple years, and finally need to jump in and do it.

I did not want a house/garage unit to be almost 100 feet long, so could not build at an end (N or S) of the house. Although at some time in the future, we may build a big playroom in the area N of the house and W of the garage..

I always liked circular drives, so it looks like I can do this, as long as I use the garage apron as part of the drive. Figured to stick acouple trees or flowers or an old wagon or mining equipment in the driveway center. Or maybe a cannon; that'd be cool

May need to shrink the width of the driveway though; looks a bit wide. Maybe 10' on each side of the oval?

The photo is taken about where the future driveway in the drawing cuts off at the bottom. The east end of the garage would be about at the Ocotillo at the right edge of the photo in the distance.

For anyone that has built a garage at right angles to a house, on a hillside, with a long drive... any comments? I'm meeting with a Contractor at the site this weekend. Have a feeling that moving dirt and concrete are gonna blow my budget...

I'm new to the forum but not to metal buildings. I don't know where you are located but I'm in Phoenix. We are a GC but specialize in metal building projects just like yours.

Sounds like concrete is going to be a hefty gulp to swallow with what your wanting to do. Unfortunately I can't see your pictures because I'm on my phone but when I get near to a computer I can run some rough numbers to keep your contractor honest. Who knows, if we're competitive we'd live to do a job for someone on the forum.

Now, where you at might be different than phoenix (building code, loads, market prices). If you were to have me quote you your building without the apron, your looking at about -35k no insulation +35 with insulation (give or take). That's a pretty good, turnkey number to go off. The apron is prob going to run $4 a sqft. Remember that's AZ numbers.

Hey SBS,
Thanks for the reply. Met a contractor here yesterday, and although he is a GC, wants no part of the dirt and concrete. So looks like I'll need to get that done first. Have a guy at work who can help me out with the grading; so guess it gives me a bit more time to sort out the building.
That said, it will prolly be stick; would like it to match the house. No reflection on Metal Bldgs per se, but I think it looks ...less than esthetic when a metal bldg. is plopped down next to a stick one with different architecture. It would bother me every time I drive up the driveway...
Thanks for the numbers. That is about what the Contractor was saying, with a "standard" slab; guess I scared him off... Better to find out now than to get someone trying to "wing it..."
