At Work I have a 40x40 block addition on the side of My Main Shop with a door sealing from the Main Shop..It has a 14 ' high R-19 Insulated Ceiling..
I want to Hang a Gas Heater from Ceiling..
My Main Shop is 48x80 and I have a 275,00BTU Gas hanging Blower over there and it Heats it fine..
How many BTU do I need to Heat the 40x40 Addition?
I'm in Pa and it was 14Deg Today
Is there a formula to figure out BTUs
Thanks

are you planning on only running it when your in the shop or all the time? if you want something that will heat the shop when you walk in in the morning and turn it on after sitting all night cold id say atleast 250k btu/hr. if your gonna leave it on a thermostat 24/7 you should be alright with anything over 150k. you can look here http://www.heatershop.com/btu_calculator.htm for more info

Well, it is about 1,600 sq ft. I heat slightly more than that in NH where it is colder, with a 150K BTU unit heater. There are factors such as any wall insulation, how tight is it, etc., that will affect the heating needs.

I want to maintain 50deg 24/7 but raise it to 62deg when I Work in there..
Its sealed up pretty good.. I have 1 12x12 Insulated Garage Door and a 8x8 Insulated Garage Door..I have a 8x10 Door between My main Shop and the Addition.. My main Shop is Heated 24/7 to 62 deg.. So I only have the other 3 Walls of the Addition in the Cold.. Probably in Pa. Temp averages 20 to 35 deg in Winter..Thanks
