Are those drywall joints that I'm seeing both horizontally and vertically? Its hard to tell (crappy laptop LCD + low res pics) especially with the paint. I love the white+grey+red stripe, looks fantastic. I think - way down the road - I am going to do white+grey+blue stripe.

I imagine the privacy is super nice! I lived on a play-farm (10 acres, a pack of sheep and chickens, folks were both working professionals not farmers) when I was a kid, and we had a ~1/2mi street and ~500ft driveway. The privacy was fantastic, we never had strangers coming over. I can't wait for the day that I can have that again... It is so much better than city living!

its not drywall, its plywood. much tougher and you can hang things where ever you want

Yup, what he said ^^^^ Plywood was actually cheaper than particle board when I bought my materials, so it was a no brainer. I didn't want drywal because of the shadows that develope when you have exhaust and smoke inside a shop + driving a nail anywhere is a bonus.

My epoxy floor nightmare has come true. The first coat went down great, and then I waited the recommended 4-7 days for the second coat and that's where the problem started. I remembered the first coat when on as a very light color, but then as it dried it got darker. So, as I began with the second coat I didn't think much of the color difference. When I got to the back half of the shop and started my second batch of mixed paint is where it became evident that something was wrong. No word back from Sherwin Williams yet on what they plan to do, but this is no good.

Thanks for the kind words. Updates.....man this thing is sucking my build account dry! Honestly, I only have one additional picture and it was before the floor coating problem. Sherwin Williams told me that their product often has a "slight variation" of color from one batch to the next. Yeah, no kidding. Anyhow, they would not "warranty" the color issue. The best they could do was give me the replacement stuff at cost whatever. Anyhow, the new stuff is now applied and drying and looks pretty darn good. Hopefully the coats of epoxy bond together correctly. This picture is prior to painting. I ground the floor, vacumed, washed and then vacumed again. That floor grinding stuff is for the birds.

Thanks. So, the floor is done and turned out way better than I was expecting after the first mixing issue. Anyhow, it looks smooth from a distance, but is actually pretty rough with all of the agrigate that I put down.



I finished my floor control panel and now just need to get it installed and hooked up. Even though I don't need it just yet, winter is coming quicker than we think.

I know it's August, but I got it all hooked up, purged and tested. I think I'm going to be happy this winter. Now to build the benches over it so it's hidden out of the way and I can use the counter space over the top of it.

The first month of "cooler weather" has come and gone and the power bill only went up $15 with the addition of the shop, so I'm anxious to see what happens in January when the boiler runs more of the time.

How long does it take to heat up with the floor heat?

Whatever the temp is outside has a big part to play in how long the heating process takes. I leave the temp at 45* during the week or when I know I'm not going to be out there. I turn it up to 65* before I go to bed and when I get up the next morning its all toasty and nice.

What is your definition of in season? I'm thinking salt and pepper are a seasoning to be in. A deer that wanders up to the shop was obviously suicidal. I used to live in Coeur d'Alene. I'm down in a tiny town outside of Caldwell now. I miss the north. I prefer a real winter, but I'm the only one in the family that thinks that way. I have a huge pile of tip ups and a Jiffy auger that are dying of malnutrition.

Overall pics? What do you mean? From the outside?

What do you think your heating costs are this winter?

The highest I saw was in February where we had 2 weeks below zero and I kept the shop at 63* That month the electric bill was $210

I'll have to get some pics of the "entire" inside now that spring has sprung and I can open the doors. I LOVE the T5HO lights. I can make it surgical bright or just light enough to see what I need to do. I would do the floor with Shark Grit instead of the heavier aggrigate that I used. Mine is too course and makes it hard to keep clean in the winter. I'll get some more pictures up shortly.
