Hello all,

Well I've finally decided to pull the trigger and spend too much money. I have a open field behind the house and will be building a 40x60x16 (or 18) steel building. I will have two lifts, HVAC, a machine tool area, welding area, etc. I've been working on cars in a 1.5 car garage far too long and at 45 I'm over bench pressing transmissions into cars on jackstands! :)

So I've gotten quotes from several manufacturers, they are pretty similar. Concrete quotes are coming in really varied, from 12 to 25K for the monolithic slab. Planning on erecting it myself with friends help, totally excited!!!

Soooo.... a couple questions...

1) 5" slab enough? rebar or mesh?
2) My original plan was 16' height but I want the option of building a mezz in the future, I'm thinking 18' will be necessary. thoughts?
3) Insulation, looks like the "norm" is 6" over the purlins and 3" on the walls. Should I do more as I intend to cool it in the summer?

Thanks in advance ya'll!!
