I want to buy (new) a 41.5 mm wrench open end for a project underway. it can be a "flat" style (similar to bicycle cone wrenches) and doesn't need to have the massive strength a normally proportioned wrench of this size would have.

I have exhausted any search words/ combinations on the search engine sites that I can think of. anyone know where I could get something like this?

thanks

Check amazon.com. type in thin wrench 41mm. sounds like you are looking for what is called a service wrench. several came up ( 40 to 60 bucks ) nothing in 41.5 mm that I saw but a grinder would give you the needed .5. also Harborfreight tools sells a complete set of service wrenches ( in sae ) but again you could modify one.

I would get a local machine shop to water jet one out of plate steel... or find a friend with a plasma cutter.

1 5/8" is 41.275 mm. I can't see how that less than quarter mm will be a problem.

we're talking roughly .006. I've never heard of a wrench that large being at a half size. I bet this is a SAE size.

41.28mm = 1.625" = 1-5/8", are you sure you don't need a thin pattern 1-5/8" wrench? Alternately a 1" Whitworth/1-1/8" BSF size wrench would be 42.24mm or 1.67", any chance the bolt/fastener is slightly undersized?

Martin Tools makes several types of wrenches that tend to be thinner than average. Martins double open end hydraulic wrenches have two open ends, one at 15 degrees, one at 60 degrees. Thickness of the 1-5/8" wrench is listed as .5", length is listed as 15.8". The wrenches are available in chrome, part number 3727, or black, part number BLK3727. McMaster-Carr will have them.

Martin also makes short pattern single open end service wrenches in 1-5/8". The open end is offset 30 degrees, the thickness of the head is listed as 9/32"( .281"), length 7-15/16" part numbers 1252 for chrome and BL1252 for black.

Martin also manufactures Straight servce wrenches that are longer. Again the opening is 1-5/8", thickness 9/32", length 12-1/4".

If you need a 41mm wrench, You can get a DIN 894 style single open end, 15 degree offset one for around $20 plus shipping. The Elora one from Blommer Tool is $18.26

A Gedore one costs $35.19 plus shipping from Samstag Tools, thickness is listed as 13.8mm. Probably the same as the Elora.
