I wouldn't spend the money on any Craftsman tool boxes anymore....maybe if they were used and cheap(er), but the steel quality and overall product quality has dropped big time over the past 5-10 years

You are just paying for the name

I know the stainless looks nicer than harbor freight red, but the HF44 is a much better box in that size range

Buy a box/chest used on CL......you'll save a ton of money if you're dead set on Craftsman

I agree with everybody else... don't waste your money on one of those boxes.. my brother has one.. you can't fit ANYTHING big in it. The depth really kills the functionality of the storage space

I wouldn't get that box. I was at sears yesterday and saw it. It looks nice, but that's it. The drawers wobble and flex. It is not sturdy. The best thing was the grip latch and that's it. Complete junk. Get the HF 44" and actually enjoy your box.

For that price, add a little more and get the 56" box from HF and get a NICE box.

every craftsman box i have ever seen was junk, even their expensive industrial line is lacking when compared to similarly priced pro boxes

A whole lot of people taking but nobody answering the question...

Sorry Ryan, I can't help you! I do know that Cman just drastically reduced the price of the old model of it however, so you might want to see if it's available near you.

Holy **** the HF fan boys are out in force today. That box is every bit as good if not better than the HF 44. The new premium heavy duty boxes are great. I just ordered the 52". When's the last thread about these craftsman boxes and their warped or crooked drawers been on the forum. Well the almighty 44 has had a few. Have not seen a "my craftsman premium box has crooked drawers or broken welds". Maybe because the quality control is better in the USA than China.
Ryan. I can't help you with the dimensions but the quality is great and dare I say better than the HF. Enough already. We get it. It's a decent box for the money. But it is not the best and only box in the 40" segment.

I have the stainless top and bottom, got it about 6 years ago, It seems to be well built in my opinion.
If I remember correctly, the box I have was made in India.
I think they changed suppliers shortly after I got mine, the following year after I got my box, I wanted to get the center and side cabinets, they where all discontinued, that kind off pissed me off.
The box they are selling now looks different than the one I purchased a few years back.

Ok, I just measured the bottom box.

33 1/8" tall without casters
18 1/16" deep
40 15/16" wide

Like I said, my box is a few years old and may have come from a different supplier than the current boxes, dimensions may be different.

Are you suggesting the craftsman premium boxes are made in the USA? Because they are made in China also

He just bought the 52" top and bottom premium heavy duty. I think he'd know.

http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-...p-00958630000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

Heres a link to the 52" premium, doesnt say anything about USA made which they would proudly display if it was, so that most likely means COO is China or some other Asian country, but I could be wrong.

Not trying to start an argument but the fact of the matter is that the HF box is much stronger and cheaper than the Cman, the cman has a load capacity of 1200 lbs, thats pretty weak for a 52" box.

For the record I dont have a HF box so not really a fan boy of them.

Actually he just bought the 52" top and bottom for not much more then the price of the HF 56" bottom by itself. And he stated it has a lifetime warranty..... .

The NEW premiums are USA. Have even seen it on displays at Sears. So yes that's what I'm implying. Got mine for $899 top and bottom. Craftsman boxes are made in one of 2 places. USA or Mexico by waterloo. The HF is a nice box. I considered it. But when the craftsman went on sale for less than the HF... No brainer. The premium heavy-duty boxes are just as good if not better than the HF. I'm so tired of every question that is asked about a box other than the Hf(even if you say I don't want the HF) someone's going to tell you to get it. Usually in the first reply. As evidence in this thread.
No where did the op say anything about the HF box. But just like every tool box thread on here the HF Nazi's come a runnin.

I'm not saying this only because Ryan posted this (although it must **** to have a real question but have who you are sidetrack that many times) but guys, I challenge you to take a second to think about what you're going to submit BEFORE you submit it.

The OP has a question, a pretty simple one, and the whole thread is derailed with posts that don't relate to the question - so much so that there's an actual answer that is buried somewhere in these OT posts.

I think you'd be frustrated if it were your question... think about the guy who runs the joint.

Are the quoted measurements/dimensions correct? That poster's box is a few years old.

All I was trying to say just with a few more words. I made a thread a while ago asking about the 52" version of the box in question. Even specified I don't want the HF box. But every response was about the HF box. The HF fans are WAY worse than the snap on guys. The HF box is nothing special at all. Just a decent box for the money.

From the information in the link, the width is 40.75". If you scale from the picture shown, the height of the box (excluding casters) is the same as the width, which is what is listed in the specs. That said, I don't have the box for direct proof.

I think the HF fan boys have "value" and "quality" mixed up... The premium line craftsman boxes feel pretty good.

My favorite argument of the HF guys is- the US general box has a better load rating. Do you think its that good or is there some truth stretching going on. The quality is so awesome you get a lot of orange peel in the paint no charge. The entry level craftsman boxes are exactly that. The HF box lovers compare the "industrial" quality stuff to the standard craftsman boxes and think they are all the same . The premium boxes are great. The drawer latches are superior to the plastic contraption on the HF. That are always broke on the displays. It's no wonder all the truck brand reps and other tool company reps go running. Even the owner of this site can't ask a craftsman box question and not be scolded about his choice and he should return it immediately to avoid being ripped off by buying any box other than the best box ever.

Fellas that measured your boxes for me. Thank you!

As for HF, I think those boxes are a pretty damned good value. I'd own one... And remove the brand tag!

I haven't bought this craftsman yet, but I might... Currently doing some layout work and needed the height.

To the original poster, I'm glad you got the info you're looking for, and I hope you enjoy your box.

To the people that feel the need to make personal attacks against "HF Fan boys"...

Don't make it personal, if you don't like the boxes or think they are overhyped, say that. Don't pile on people that were just trying to offer what they think is good advice. I know the OP didn't ask if for advice, and I gave it. That's on me. But don't make it personal.
