Hi All,
As my tool collection grows my need for storage space increases exponentially
I have a Waterloo 41" Upper and lower and ideally I'd love to add a middle chest with 1-2 full length drawers.
I found one model on line, which would be an exact fit but it costs almost as much as a new HF 44" cabinet.

I seem to keep buying ratchets/drive tools and I am gonna need a better way to store them.Currently my full width drawer is full of sockets on rails and trays.
And as I clean up/organize/sell etc I could ALMOST make enough room for a new HF 44" or similar.Would it be weird to have sockets in one box and drive tools in another?
Keep in mind this is a home shop, not a professional environment and efficiency isn't always greater than my OCD /organization.
My toolboxes are against the back wall currently and with the table saw/ woodworking stuff I do not work on vehicles IN the garage and all my tools are carried/carted to the driveway so a step to the left or right to another box isn't a dealbreaker for me.
Thanks for listening.

Between the box you found and the one SO offers which is at least double the price, those are your only options for a 40" wide middle box. So if you find a HF box a better deal, there is your answer.

IMHO, no as long as they are not across the room or the like. I keep my sockets in the top compartment of my main box, standing on end without trays as they take up too much space IMHO. Granted I hardly ever move the box so worry of domino effect is minimal. Sounds like what you need is a vertical stack of thinner drawers, since drive tools are usually pretty thin to store. Maybe keep an eye out for a used industrial cabinet or a used box with lots of thin drawers. Or grab another 26" HF set and sell off the top box, leaving the bottom as a cart/storage with thin drawers. :dunno:

:+1: A little late (sorry), but I was thinking the same thing. A while back sears clearanced out a bunch of those at various prices depending on condition. My local store had a few down in the $80 range that were pretty banged up, ~$125 seemed to be the average going rate back then, again in not so great condition.

Too bad HF has not got on the middle box train. They make a very competitive side box, if they would offer a middle box for their 26" 44" boxes I think they would sell like hot cakes. Probably not cost effective for them though :dunno:

This is related to the HF 44" box but your Cman/waterloo drawers are going to be similar. You can take 1/4" sockets, tray and all, and move them into a smaller drawer if needed. I am able to do it with all my 3/8 as well, though depending on your sockets or storage you might not be able to do that.

I like being able to store them all in one place but I had to make room for stuff longer than my longest drawer so only that top one would fit. Was an interesting experiment, not sure if I will keep it that way but good to know it's an option.

Picked this up today at Sears. Not very cheap but certainly better than the linked above.
After points, coupons and 10% back with Discover Card I am down to $176.00
It's practical in the sense that I have an easier time building up vs making floor space for another box/larger box.

anyone know if you can get this in red?

looking for one for my 41" proto top and bottom and everyone seems to have stopped making them (that waterloo is out of stock everywhere) except for craftsman

For the last couple years, craftsman was offering a red on red color option for their better boxes. That said, I do not know if they carried the option over with the box redesign last year. There is possible plenty of old stock out there. The sears outlet by me has had some boxesi thought were long gone eight years ago.

I have this exact same problem with my Masterforce 41" cabinet. I want another full length drawer to store long breaker bars, prybars, etc. without cluttering up my socket drawer. Too bad my cabinet is blue, so there's almost no hope of finding a matching chest from a different brand.
