I am planning on installing a MRCOOL 5 ton heat pump system in my 42’x64’x14’ pole building as I am all electric and don’t really want to add a propane tank. I am planning to have 2” closed cell foam in the walls and blown in fiberglass in the ceiling to R60. I am planning on placing the furnace halfway on one of the 64’ walls, going up the wall and to the middle of the ceiling, installing a t, and then taking the duct work down the length of the building. I was planning on using spiral round duct and was figuring on 18” duct. Will this size of duct be best, smaller or larger? How many outlet vents would you suggest? The building is located in Nebraska also.

nefarmboy, did you get your install completed? I am curious how the Mr Cool 5 ton is performing as I am interested in the same unit for my 40x60x16. Any feedback/tips would be appreciated.

I just seen your PM but I don't have enough post to reply. My project was held up by the concrete guys getting to my slab pour. As long as the weather holds out we should get it in next Wednesday. I actually just ordered the MR Cool heat pump on Wednesday and should be here next week sometime. I have the spray foam guys coming to do my walls as soon as there is a day or two with warm enough weather and then I will get the heat pump installed. I am prob a month or so away hopefully from getting it installed and going but I will let you know how it is working out.

I will add that I got it through Ingram's and they were great to work with and they even set me up with an account and provided a little discount. The pump, 15' precharged line, thermostat, and tax came out to a little over $3500.

Just wondering if either of you guys got your systems installed and running yet. I purchased this system for my 26x48x15 build the day after Thanksgiving and just got it started up day before yesterday, principally because I was waiting for weather warm enough to pour a concrete pad for the outdoor unit. I’m very pleased with the system, but of course I won’t really know how it performs until next winter.
