Greetings. I am new to this blog site. I’m in the midst of building a garage / shop. Thought I would share what I’ve done to date and see what the feed back would be.
I started this in February of 2024. I ordered a package building from Hanson pole buildings in MN. I decided to go with them due to being able to get design and stamped prints as well as what looked like better quality materials then I could source where I live in southwest Colorado. For the most part it was a good choice in hindsight sight. I had a lightly sloped area in my yard that would fit a building up to 60 ft long and 45 ft deep. I decided on the size partially due to space and partially due to efficiency of the materials.
at this point I have the building closed in and am still working on wiring. I did all the site work myself. For the framing and structure I hired to guys I know with all the necessary equipment and the 3 of us framed it and put on the roof and siding. I did hire some guys I know to finish my concrete slab but I did all the gravel and steel to prep. My slab is insulated and has pex run in it for my heating. 5 inches of 4000 psi with 18” steel grid. My wife helped me hang the interior ceilings. I have done all the electrical work. I have a bathroom stubbed in and water already in but not hooked up at the source. To date I am at around $85,000 all in.

Here are a few pictures to this point.

So continuing on. I am currently putting up insulated garage doors (R19). I will be installing my lighting and all my electrical as well. I have a couple of high bay lights and one run of outlets installed so I could get my final inspection done for the electrical.

So how much light is enough?
How many receptacles are enough?
what are most people doing for exterior outlets and lights?

I am debating what to put up on the interior walls. Suggestions welcome.

My heating will be solar water heat pumped through the slab. I’m planning to frame a room to house my solution tank and pump. I placed the building just about perfect for southern exposure for the roof mounted panels.
