Decided to pick up a 4X pneumatic rivet gun to use as an air hammer--4X because of the more common .401 bore size for attachments.
Any good suggestions? Seems like such a niche thing that there's not many reviews out there besides some talk on aviation forums and the like. I've been hunting around ebay, and there's a few dozen 4X guns, but nothing really sticking out as an awesome deal so I've been debating if I should buy a Chicago Pneumatic (CP) rebuilt for ~$160 or get a new CP clone like the one made by Aircraft Tool Supply (ATS) for ~$185. The Yardstore also has one made by Air Capital Air Tools for ~$175. Think there's any advantage to buying the rebuilt CP since it's unknown whether OEM parts went into it anyway? Or just go with a new clone where none of the tolerances are potentially worn?
Also, anyone know of a good quick change adapter to fit the CP style guns? Yardstore has a couple, one says it fits 'X' style guns and the other says for particular brands. Do they just thread onto the end where the beehive spring would be and stay put with set screws?
Regulators? ATS has a small swivel one that someone on here recommended. These things actually change how hard the gun hits or just decrease the flowrate, leaving you with fewer blows per minute?
Accessories, sets, drifts, etc. I saw that Old Forge and Mayhew seem to have a bunch for reasonable prices, any other suggestions? Like I said, this will be going to work as an air hammer, mostly driving out stuck pivot pins, bearing races, and the like. But I like what people have said about these rivet guns having better control, hitting harder, and probably being a better overall value than your average mid-price air hammer--I just don't have any experience with 'em, so any input is appreciated.
