So the old lady is wanting a small shed in the yard for her gardening stuff and cushions for the patio furniture. Have been looking into building a 4x8 leanto shed with 1 door and a window on the short/long wall to pitch the roof away from the house. Anyone ever built one of these and can tell me how many hours it took? Trying to see if its worth it to build vs buy. I have a local guy here that will build it to my satisfaction it for 2K. 2x6 floor framing , plywood floor and roof sheathing, shingles, T111 walls, 2x4 24"OC with 3 stud corners, and double top plates. I can do it but I'm short on time and have a lot of stuff to get done in the next 2 months on the weekends. I am guessing 3 days doing it alone including prime/paint time , am I far off?

I doubt that anyone on the internet, who doesn’t know you and your skills and tool set up, can accurately predict how long it would take you to build that structure. I know guys who, once all the materials were on site, could knock that out in a day. Others couldn’t finish in a week.
What kind of foundation did you specify? Beams on pier blocks? 2x4 surround filled with gravel?

Two grand doesn’t sound out of line for my area.

I’m tooled up and know how to use them. Was figuring day one material delivery, site prep, build the base, work down the cut list for the walls.Day 2 build and erect walls ,roofing, trim work and build the door. Day 3 prime and finish coat. Was going to do 4x4 gavel filled surround for the base. I ain’t getting paid for this so it’s not a death march, more of a leisurely pace.

The $2K is just his labor I'm assuming? If that's turn key you would be dumb to not have it built at that price.

The way I often factor DIY vs contract is: Would I do the job for someone else for the same amount of $$. i.e. would you be willing to spend 3 days of your time to build someone a shed to pocket $2,000? If the answer is no, then pay to have it built.

Sounds doable
Can you negotiate for a 2 month delay to get your colander cleared so that you can devote 3 days to that project? You don’t say where you are located. Will the weather cooperate for you?

4x8? Just buy a kit at home depot.

I've built a few sheds, usually takes a couple solid weekends by the time I'm done, but that's stick built, sheathed, shingled roof, vinyl siding, doors, etc. and not just a simple "good enough" build.
