Last summer I bought a box of tools at a yard sale that among other things contained some 5/8" drive impact sockets. There is a Snap-on IMB81 impact swivel with a 1963 date code and four Proto impact sockets. I have seen older 5/8" drive sockets but never anything as modern as these. Does anyone know anything about these?

I have a few also, Mac and Proto, they came in a lot that had some 1920's snap on 5.8 sockets.

I have never seen a 5/8 impact, but they obviousely exist(ed).

Unless you have a 5/8 ratchet or breaker bar, or can find an impact, they are prety much useless.

how about an adapter? can you buy one of those so you can use a 3/4 drive

if not you could buy an adapter that you could modify to work..

what sizes are these sockets?

The snap on adaptor is part number IM-52

Not really worth getting one, IMO, to make use of 2 sockets. If you had a whole set, maybe.

The sockets I have are all sizes I have in 1/2" or 3/4" drive as well. I was just interested in knowing something about these odd ball sockets. It seems a shame the Snappy impact swivel can't be used though. Maybe a collector would want it.
