That is what I'm using in my garage.

Only have the bathroom & utility room paneled right now, but going to do the whole shop this way.

I like being able to unscrew a panel if need be and the ability to hang stuff anywhere.

I'll be painting it once finished.

Way overkill
3/8 will hold anything you can lift.
But if you can afford it, go for it.

I used 5/8 OSB inside my shed. 1/2 seemed too flimsy for holding things, and 3/4 was too expensive and heavy. 5/8 is a good compromise.

I am planning on doing 1 wall of 5/8" ply that way I have an easy-off for when the funds come in for a mini split in the future. Rest is drywall and I'll eventually go back with the d.w. when that is finalized.

Using it as exterior sheathing. Will probably use it for rod sheathing, as we as interior wall sheathing

I don't know why everyone loves plywood walls so much. Drywall is orders of magnitude cheaper, quieter and a lot safer. In my opinion, 5/8 drywall looks better (finished) and is really durable too.

Plywood/OSB is more user friendly. With wood, you can just about hang anything anywhere. I’m not sure what you mean about safer unless your talking about fire rating. Remember, this is a garage/shop, not the inside of a house. The walls are going to get dirty, damaged etc, when that happens with plywood you just unscrew that piece and cut/screw in a new one. Drywall would have to get cut out and a new piece fitted and then taped and sanded. Who wants to do that.

Also think plywood keeps it drier and slows rust.

I agree. But people are worried about it getting damaged. In my opinion, drywall is super easy to fix and patch, never see the repair when done.
Only area in my shop that I used 1/2” plywood was where I was going to hang a bunch of parts bins.

Ended up moving the panel a little after insulating and adding more bins along the bottom.

Yeah, the stuff I use is "A" grade on one side.
It may not be the cheapest, but I don't care..........this is "MY special space", so I'm building it to the best of my ability. (& budget).
