Hey guys,

I've officially outgrown my 2006 garage. The garage had 3 bays plus I have 2 garage bays in a detached outbuilding HOWEVER, 1 of those bays has terrible access and is only useful for my riding lawnmower...meaning I have 4 useful garage bays and 5 vehicles to park. :dunno:

VOTE FOR WHO LEAVES THE ISLAND!...(uhh...I mean "garage")

1. Wife's 2001 Pontiac Montana Mini-van
2. Son's 2007 Mazdaspeed 3
3. My 2008 Chevy 1500 Silverado
4. Other Son's 1989 Mustang GT (note doors leak despite new weather strip)
5. My 1965 Mustang Convertible

Have the son pick one to stay outside?

(Opps, I reread and noticed it was son/other son.)

Looks like most the guys are voting for the mini-van. If you live where you are not relegating the wife to scraping snow and frost off the windshield I could see this option. It is the least likely to be affected by weather adversely enough to lose value. However, If that doesn't wash with her, then alternate weeks or months with one of the boys cars outside.

Pick a bay, assign it to the boys, let them figure it out! Totally hands off on your part. make them work out the compromise! (It will be good for them!) maybe they trade off... maybe son-A says son-B can have it for $50 a month??? whatever. their problem, not yours!

mazda. If the wife drives the minivan, keep her inside where its warm so she doesnt have to go outside to start it. she will be happy. Your son's can argue all they want

When I came home from the Navy and bought a car, my father was nice enough to offer to back the cost of the new addition if I would help build it.....not a problem. No free lunch.

I never had my car in the garage when I was living for free at home! I'd say both son's cars can go outside and you get an empty bay for a workshop or project.

If they protest, who would pay the higher rent to keep their car inside?

None of the cars need to be in a garage except the leaky window one until it is fixed, rotate them. Other than that I picked the minivan because it is the least interesting/least valuabe of them all.

Here's the 2 boys and the 1989 Mustang.

Damn...they grow up fast. 18 and 16 now!

1 more fact:

The Hagerty insurance on the 1965 requires it to be stored in a locked garage when not in use. So...that one can't go outside really.

The oldest son's car. It's your garage, keep your wife & your own vehicles inside. the oldest boy can either bribe the younger one for the available space or build his own roof if he wants it bad enough.

If it was me, the 65 Mustang gets first choice of the inside bays. The 89 Mustang should have second choice. The pickup third choice because it is better built than new cars and could likely last longer. Flip a coin on the other two. They are basically disposable vehicles.

I'd kick both boys out of the garage and bring another project in.

Or let the boys negotiate who gets the space between themselves.

Alternatively, +1 on Wingnut's rent idea, space goes to highest bidder.

I replaced the weather strip. The problem is the fit on the door. It's like the car is tweaked a little or maybe Ford just built it that way (I don't think the car's ever been wrecked). Maybe a body shop could fix the gap at the top of the door to get it to seal, but I couldn't. I adjusted it all that it would go (it helped a lot) but it still leaks some.

I had the same problem in my '88 after a break-in. Here's the repair procedure:

  1. Open the door and get between the door and the car.
  2. Roll the window down.
  3. Put your knee against the inside of the door, preferably against a structural part of the door.
  4. Grasp the top of the window frame.
  5. Pull.
  6. Test the fit.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 as necessary.

Look at it this way...."if momma ain't happy, then no ones happy"

Just sayin'

^----- what he said.

i learned my lesson,
i was building my s-10 blazer, had scrap, **** and parts, engines, transmissions, tires laying everywhere inside the garage.
mid winter, overnight ice storm, and colder'n a well diggers ***,
my service truck remote started, and warming up
4:30 am :wtf:
wifes car is outside in the driveway, covered in ice :shocking:
i was still getting dressed for work,
i can hear her calling me all kinds of names,
and BTW none of them very flattering :(
2 days later she was able to get her car back inside

i keep 1/2 the garage clear in the winter so her car is inside, after the weather clears the garage is mine to clutter up as needed :lol_hitti

i didnt fall off a turnip truck yesterday
i jumped
