5" Cup brush on 4.5" angle grinder

I just picked up a 5" crimped brush for my Milwaukee 11 amp grinder. Do you think it is too big? It clears fine but seems to be pushing the limits of this grinder, it spins up to full speed fine but starts to bog under moderate to light pressure. I bought it to do some finishing work on a large area after I hit it with a knotted cup

Anybody else use one this big? What about 4"?

I like to run 3" crimped brushes on mine.

I've killed two Porter Cable 4.5" grinders with a 4.5" cup brush on it. These were being used for extended periods, but it did not take very long for the grinder to go...after that, I use cups for very specific needs, if I can't get a knotted wheel in there.

For your question, I wouldn't run it for long..

If that wheel kills the 11A grinder you got robbed. Run it with a little less pressure till it wears down a little.

I smoked my dewalt doing that....id say get a 3" or a bigger grinder

If you could get your grinder to match the speed limit of the wire wheel, you'd be fine; otherwise, you're going to smoke armature windings in the grinder.

the biggest problem i've run into, is the larger cup brushes aren't rated for the the rpm of a 4- 4 1/2" grinder.

i really hate picking imbedded wire out of my clothes and skin.

the $15 cost of a 3" cup brush is really not that much.
