Bet you've got cooler cars in your garage than caveman.

He moved his real collection, which is extensive, before shooting that show. He put that house on market and perhaps sold it a long time ago.

The surprising thing is how crappy the actual interiors are. Garage doors on tracks stuck to the same perforated L-stock you'd see in any low-end residential development. Wavy concrete with epoxy that he needs to put rugs over where he walks. You'd think that once you were deep into the hydraulic elevator, you'd also give a thought to the rest of the place.

(That all said, I'm not a big fan of those 'looks like an estate library' types of rich-guy garages, either.)

But he clearly had someone to design the outside. Why not the inside as well?

I can think of a lot better uses for $5 million. It is cool and all, but really, I don't suffer from feeling deficient in my life.

Um no--even if I don't agree with his choices or need to collect multiples

I like a clean garage, but that place is sterile!

His upper garage felt totally uninspired. Looked like an anywhere USA HD dealership.

Also, that Landy he had built for expedition use didn’t have a scratch on it; I’d have that thing dented to hell after the first weekend. :)

To each their own, but I have a feeling that most people on this site (if they had some serious cash to blow on a garage) would spend it much differently. I know I would.

As my grandmother always said - "Money doesn't equal taste".

Truer words never spoken especially glancing through the gallery section of this site, where ingenuity, creativity, resourcefullness, and old fashioned hard work produce so many examples of wonderfully crafted place to whack a hammer. Take one of those any day over a car lift with 'fake plastic trees' all over the top.....

He also had a mclaren and a f50. The f50 is questionable but anyone with a mclaren is pretty awesome. I think you can see it back corner

If i had $5mil, I'd have about 2400 sq/ft of shop with a wing that was stocked like a Summit Racing warehouse. And lots of $$$ left over in the bank as escrow to pay the AC bill when I was old and frail.

You can actually see the corner of another Z8. That makes at least five. That is .2% of the 2,602 Z8s in the US. :willy_nil.

There was a video of a guy who bought a old WalMart to house his car collection, which if you have a lot of cars & the dough seems rather practical, lot's of open space, climate controlled & you can bet that WalMart's real estate dept. would want to unload it.

My attitude is that it's your money & one is entitled to do with it as you see fit, even if we think it's a waste of money, or poorly spent.

Yup ... sounds like Rick Treworgy's "Muscle Car City" in Punta Gorda, FL. It's about a 40 minute drive from me.

http://www.musclecarcity.net/

He did in fact buy an old Walmart to store his private collection of mostly Corvettes and Chevys. He does charge an enterance fee is see all his cars.

Why would anyone do that? Is it the fact that with 5 of them, you have some hope of ONE of the running at any given time? No, that can't be it. The way they are parked, he never drives them anyway. This is like buying art and never looking at it. Or marrying a super model and never banging her. Idiot.

He might have been one of those centric types or paranoid types who got multiple contractors so no one really knew what was going on. Example- He builds the basement as a warehouse under an excuse that it's some sort of pumping station... builds the top as it's just a regular large house, builds the lift as some sort of large equipment mover to get items into the pumping station.

You get people like that. It would explain the architectural differences.

He's not too old for chicks. With money and cars like that, you find women half your junior would throw themselves at you.

Interesting enough, I never really get checked out in the cars I drive (I just drive daily driver blah cars I guess)... but the moment I put my *** in a 100k sports car that is all freshly cleaned... heads turn and you get smiles and waves from girls out of your league

Yep, this to me is a better approach. You can buy old bank owned warehouses for literally pennies on the dollar... some of them are free by the city as long as you pay your taxes and invest into the property.

All I see is waste, excess, and a man acting like a child because he has a lot of money.

Buying 20 of the same motorcycles to collect and not drive shows some sort of deep psychological need to feel important and possess material goods.

Spending $5mm on a garage that serves no practical purpose goes to show this guy is more about the status that he is about the functionality.

Us normal people are forced to make choices and sacrifices. When you take those away and have unlimited resources, you end up with a man who has it all and still isn't sure what he wants.

IMO

This garage has been posted here probably a dozen times, and every time people complain about how rich he is and make assumptions about his mental health. I can't figure it out...why does anyone care what he does with his own money?

It's kind of funny to see all the negative reactions. It's not like the man owns donks.

It's not like we care what he does....it just seems like a waste. Cars and bikes are made to be driven. With $5 million, I would buy 6 or 7 of my favorite muscle cars and drive a different one every week.

If it is this guy he didn't get to enjoy it for too long.

It is a nice place and all but I like Thomas's 1930s shop that he restored way better. I think that one is the nicest one I have ever seen in pictures. It may not be the most costly but it sure has more character than almost any out there.

Note, maybe I spoke too soon. The guy in the video may have been the dad of the fellow who died. Here is more info.

I would rather have 4 or 5 good cars spend a $1,000,000 on a bad *** (real) shop and $4,000,000 on building my own road course.

In the end I would have stimulated the local contractors who employ people and would then have a place drive the cars on the edge safely and legally.

Yep, it looks like the father and son founded the company, but then the son died of cancer.
