Who needs all that to change oil?

Well with no oil pan to catch the oil the procedure would look like this:

-Place 12 of the supplied paper rags under the engine compartment.
-Drain oil.
-Remove and replace oil filter while laying in a pile of rags soaked with 4.5 quarts of oil.
-Tighten oil drain plug.
-Wrestle with the pile of oil soaked rags.
-Dispose of in an environmentally sound fashion in a trash bag with your normal municipal waste.
-Use supplied funnel to put 4.5 quarts into the engine.
-Pour remaining half quart of oil over your head.
-Sprinkle supplied coco absorbent over entire body like you have been tarred and feathered.
-Eat supplied cherry GoJo gel
-Detail entire vehicle exterior with single Tub O' Towel.

Congratulations on your oil change! The 6 foot diameter oil stain on your driveway is a badge of honor. Next week we'll help you with your brakes!

Have you been watching me change my oil?

That's my exact method!

Been there, done that, have the oil stained driveway to prove it!

I must be an expert then. I just need the new oil, filter, drain pan and a few paper towels (plus tools)

Figure a way to keep the filter from making a mess and I'm set.

The drain plug doesn't make a mess usually but the filter does.

Yea I have one but it still isn't as clean as the fumoto thing for the drain plug.

Now I punch a hole in the bottom of the filter with a screwdriver, let it drain. Then unscrew it.

Wouldn't this potentially be a bad thing if you take a 4wd vehicle off road? A twig or branch hits that lever and you leak all of your oil?
