There are some older posts here, and other forums saying many had trouble with these folks primarily not completing pole buildings in a timely manner.

I am getting impression they MAY be improving this issue.

Has anyone used them lately, like in the past year?

If so, was your experience good, or not?

They do have attractive pricing, and do their own concrete, w rebar.

Thank you, Marc

There are many metal building contractors in the state. Why take a chance on someone you know has received had reviews?

I have used two different local guys and been very satisfied. These are welded up on slab, not pole barns.

OK, then I'm going to also post another thread asking for "pole building" or all steel in "Deep east TX".

But please, 5 Starr comments if any, continue here. Marc

Because - #1 - Their prices are VERY good.

#2 - Even though I have read they have problems completing the job, I ALSO have opposite experience opinions, mostly recently.

Conflicting info I am trying to figure out.

That's why I am asking. Marc

Not trying to pick a fight with you, just giving you my $.02 worth. I keep cost in mind, but I am less concerned with price than I am with quality of product and quality of workmanship. Doesn't matter how good a deal they give you, if the product and/or the workmanship *****, you will never be happy.

My advice is to get references and then go talk to the people in person and see for yourself the quality of the building products and the type of craftsmanship the builder is capable of. Once you do that you will have a much better inclination as to if you want to hire that company to construct the building or not.

I am using them. Mostly builders for metal buildings with metal frames in my area (Decatur tx). I wanted a pole barn type. I went and saw their display, their materials, etc. everything looks good. They've been very backed up but have added crews. My building breaks ground in 2-3 weeks. I'll report back on how mine goes.

Thanks, Shannon.

Give Rob-Bilt a call, you will not be sorry. I called every company I could find for 4 months. Rob-Bilt had the best price but more importantly the best quality of construction in my opinion.

Mine was finished today. I signed the paperwork from Five Starr on 8/3 and there was a 2-3 week lead time. They started on 8/25 and finished 9/23. I am happy with the building!

Beal - Ok very good they finished in good time, so that addresses my main question.

So, further , could you post a few basic specs - Price, size, any insulation, how they concreted or not the poles, stuff we can't tell from your photo Please.

And did you get other quotes? possibly RobBilt, my other main choice ?

We are still at least a few months away from starting.

Thank you very much, it really helps, Marc

The only other quotes I got were from steel frame builders. I couldn't find other post building suppliers that would come to me (too farr I guess) other than Morton and they were crazy high. The steel frames were 10-20% higher. But, with me wanting to wire and finish out the shop interior, wood made more sense. Also with my 16' eave height, regular stick build wasnt in my budget.

My building is 40x80x16. With a concrete pad 4"-5" thick of 3500 psi concrete. All they offered was bubble wrap foil at $4000 for insulation so I didn't go with insulation. I am planning on buying the wide rolls of vinyl coated shop insulation and do it myself. I did like that the trusses are on 5' centers so I can run 2x lumber across the bottom of the trusses to support my insulation and drywall.

My 40x80x16 building with floor, and a 36" front sidewalk (also for my brick ledger at some point) was $45k. It came with (1) 14x14 commercial insulated garage door and one walk door. I provided a double french door on the side that they installed.

The 6x6 posts were dry set in concrete 36" deep. Then the floor was poured in a week later. Their standard depth of floor was 3.5-4.5" but I pushed to be a minimum of 4". They used 3/8 rebar on 12" centers for the pad. If you want to shoot me a PM with your email, I have a dropbox link I can share with you of all of the pictures I took.

Got the photos, Thank you.

I think you misunderstood my point on the insulation.

What I'm saying is, because you are in "hot humid " climate, you have the opposite vapor barrier need than the 80% of the USA north of you.

You need the plastic that faces inward (against your sheetrock) to BE able to pass moisture.

If you're coveing your insulation w sheetrock, the only purpose the facing has for you is installation conveniences and comfort, NOT as a vapor barrier.

In northern states, you WANT that vapor barrier, Not in most of TX., ceptin maybe farthest NW corner.

In hot humid, you need your vapor barrier on the EXTERIOR of your insulation, in our case, the pretty sealed up steel siding accomplishes that.

Read here, and you will understand -

Talked to them about erecting one in Longview. Had good prices but couldn't deal with Longview's ridiculous restrictions. Ended up with a Mueller red iron that I'm extremely happy with. 5 Starr were friendly and easy to deal with, just couldn't jibe with my city. A friend recommended them to me. He has two of their buildings(5 Starr) and is extremely happy with them.

My boss had one built by them a year and a half ago, he was and remains very pleased with them.
I looked at them for mine but as Alex stated, they would not even consider Longview. As a side note, I built mine entirely myself and dealt with the city throughout, no issues and they signed off on it just yesterday.
I looked at 5 starr builds all around the area while deciding and their build and Arklatex seem virtually identical.
I did learn one lesson the hard way: Stay away from the many builders who exist *only on Craigslist*. There are multiple scammers.
If I was doing it again (and NOT in the city) I would choose from Arklatex/5 Starr/Burrows/Mallet OR the Amish group out of Arkansas... can't find their name just now. The Amish guys built a buddy's 30/40 basic cheaper than all others.
