My first post here.. I have a Wilton 5" vise. It is a Chicago vise manufactured 12/53. The stationary jaw is stamped 950 and the dynamic jaw is stamped 850. It is missing the end cap. Anyone know where you can get a replacement cap. Thanks It is an M1 bullet vise.

I think it's a 2" freeze plug. Just take a good measurement with a caliper and go to an auto parts store. they should be able to hook you up. It will be flat and not domed on the outside but you can hammer it out carefully.

Good luck.

Thanks, I checked at our local NAPA store and they didn't have anything that would work.

Thanks, That looks like the way I will have to go. I will keep looking for something to match the original style.

We have a few guys here on the site who machine replacement caps for Wilton bullet vises. They are fantastic.

If you can't find them by searching the site, let me know. I can put you on the right path.

Horse, I'd like to know how to enter the search for that. Please.

Go up top to the black dropdown menu bar and choose, "search". Then choose advanced search.

When you are on the search page, the top left has a field where you can enter what you're looking for. If you drop wilton cap in there, you'll find the vise repair threads and all of the others where you will find the guys who machine replacement parts.

While I think Scott has retired, there are still a few others who can turn out beautiful stuff. If you need one of these folks, let me know.

Yeah, I tried that with Wilton bullet end cap and it returns a ton of matches which is really tedious and cumbersome to find. Putting quotes around those four words returns nothing. I'm not at the point where I need a replacement end cap yet. So I'll wait. Yeah, I think you're right KMScott has retired. Maybe you missed it, he's selling the home in CO and headed for the East Coast.

Any good machinist should be able to make them. Just give them the old ones for measurements

Hey guys, I just finished showing a Machinist who is my replacement in the company that purchased my shop and two websites. We just finished the endcaps except for the baby that uses a 1"cap. They should be opening the two sites real soon. Been through the Horseshoe washers and jaws and these endcaps that is enough to fire up the sites but they haven't pulled the trigger yet.

It is funny how it goes, I always thought building jaws and Wilton vise parts was pretty easy till I started training the newer Machinists out there coming from the CNC operator shops. It is taking a little longer to train but we are getting there. Guys like me are a dying breed, it's a shame really.

Ucs100, the endcaps are sold by diameter, measure your 5" vise so you know what you need. Use a set of calipers, guys that use a tape measure get in trouble.

KMScott made the end cap for my Wilton restoration. He's the guy you want to deal with and good fortune is with you because he has showed up here in your thread. He's the guy you want to work with.

Be sure to show us pictures of your vise as you go along.
