I have a 50 Amp rated wire ran across my house and I cannot find a 50 amp breaker panel with spaces anywhere. Can I buy a cheap 100 amp panel and install a 50 amp main breaker instead? If so could you send me a link for what I need at home depot. Thanks

Just to add to the above post, the 50A breaker in the main panel is what protects the sub panel and the 100 amp breaker in the sub panel is only being used as a master disconnect. This is legal under code.

Alternately, if you don't need a master disconnect in the sub panel, just get a main lug panel. The individual breakers in the sub panel serve as the disconnects.
