Not a bad price, spade bits are outdated though IMO.

Bosch DareDevil's do a far better job for basic holes that the spade bits excelled at, foresner bits do a FAR better job for holes whose appearance matters.

interesting comment. If they made a good hole years ago then they still do today.
Freud had some great looking Forster type bits but they come with a price.

For the homeowner, a set of foresters is overkill in my opinion. A set of spades will come in handy.

I hear you, BUT: for my traveling box of wood tools, spade bits work great. They're light to carry, take little space, and without a screw tip, can do countersinking (like a Forstner can) which I need frequently, often to "fix" the problem of a too-short bolt. I also carry several screw-tip twist bits and they're fast, but they can't bore to a depth, then stop. (At least not easily.) And screw-tips spirals don't give me clean holes. Whereas spades are reasonably clean.

Have not tried the Daredevil spade bits, but I don't think I'd want a spade that pulled. I should try one, see if I'm wrong. Thanks for the suggestion.

Agree Forstners are aweseome--too heavy, bulky (and expensive) to carry a set in my portable box.
