Oohhhhh. 119linft of goodness. How cool would that be. I think I’m up to around 54 drawers and have yet to break out a label maker. But with that collection, I’d wear one out.

I wonder if these are going to sit out in the weather till they are picked up? Right now, I would bet that there is a few inches of snow on them.

Fairly local, as these are just North of Durham. Nothing in Butner but prisons, so I'm guessing these came out of the Fed Prison there. Madoff there up until he died at some point last year. Will likely go cheap, but loading / transporting 50 would be a challenge. Trying to get my one Lista out of the back of the truck was hard enough.

Yeah. Thinking they are screwing themselves out of quite a few dollars selling in such a large lot

And with the "once in a decade" storm coming, they should have been selling at however many someone wanted. set it up for a Fri/Saturday and be done with it. they will be waiting til Spring or Summer. hopefully they tarp them

Is there any interest in trying to organize a group buy? Maybe on the smallest lot?

There's 33 in the smallest lot, of which several are damaged. Payment has to be made by the 2nd of Feb, and they have to be offsite by the 14th. Whomever bids would need to have probably close to 14K$ on hand and a way to move them in a hurry. It would take most of a 40' trailer to get them out of there in a single load.

You may be right, but I was thinking around 200$ a cabinet could possibly win the auction because of the large lots, outdoor storage and unknown condition. Is anybody super close to the storage site for some reconnoitering? Finding a place to hold them and getting them there will be the big challenge.

These are out of Camp Butner.

Interesting, no idea that was even out there. I thought it was just prisons, and misc. correctional institutions out that direction past Merck. Interesting history from Google, it was one of only two POW camps during WW2 in NC (Fort Bragg being the other).

I would think these would go for 50-100 each in the big lots. A lot of transport and logistics costs though... If this was in Texas I would do it all and sort it out.

I would take 10 of them at 100. Who else is in??

There were a few other branch camps throughout the state as well.

Here’s a pretty cool article about it all:

When I was a kid I used to compete out there as a member of the Sir Walter Gun Club’s Junior High Power Rifle Team. We were able to pull pits for the U.S. Palma team, train with the Marine Corps Rifle Team, and later go on to compete at the U.S. National Matches at Camp Perry near Port Clinton Ohio. I was able to attend matches at Quantico and was invited onto the Connecticut State Junior Rifle Team as well. Pretty crazy to be 16 at a hotel with an AR-15 in a rifle case inside the D.C. city limits. No harm came because we had no ill intentions. Just good kids spreading our wings.

The Sergeant Major once had to step off camp for a bit and told me to write down any communications that might come in by phone or radio. He jokingly told me I was in charge of the base while he was gone. Though he was joking, I didn’t know it at the time and took it pretty seriously!

It was all quite the experience for a 14-17 year old kid.

If they're out in the weather getting rained and snowed on, I wouldn't bid much over scrap price. By the time you haul in a skid steer with forks and a trailer big enough to haul them and pay a hired hand, it's getting pretty expensive.

I’m going to ask the proverbial dumb question.
Are we sure that the bud price will be per cabinet and not for the whole lot? It seems obvious that it would be per cabinet, but where are you seeing that stated? I’m beebopping around over there on my phone and have yet to see it spelled out that way.

Bidding is per lot. The lot sizes vary from 33 to 50 cabinets. Prices we are mentioning are the lot price plus buyers premium plus sales tax averaged out to a per cabinet price. The lot of 33 cabinets will probably go for somewhere around 10k$, plus the 15% premium plus the 4.75% sales tax, unless you have a NC tax number. Divide it out and it’s somewhere between 300 and 400$ per cabinet average.

They are saturating the local market and possibly brining the price down......no one has mentioned the 88 piece lot at the same location:

This one includes some sort of inventory sticker with a $274 price (wonder if it was an estimate or if the government had that sweet of a contract):

They sold the 100 cabinets for $40,105. Add taxes and auction fees and you pretty much nailed it. Nice.

I'm showing the lot of 50 went for $40,105 + tax (5%?) and a 10% buyers fee. So like $922 each before you even move them.
The 33 went for $23,005 +tax and fees = $801 each + transportation costs.

Holy cow, I had it stuck in my head that the lot was 100 cabinets. Even though it's clearly labeled that it's 50.

Glad I wasn't bidding on it...

I would think a used wholesale lot price would be much cheaper.....especially with all the baggage they require to move, store, sell, and ship afterwards.

Crazy. Especially if the buyer bought sight unseen. There were a bunch of Vidmar a that were selling in lots of 1 - 3 in an industrial auction in SC. Each individually photographed showing all drawers/contents and those when for only 500-600 each. I am honestly shocked at what somebody paid for these.

In northern Indiana there's one of those used equipment dealers who tries to sell things at 60% retail. I was bidding on a vidmar that sold for $968. They bought it and poured a gallon of paint on a pretty clean cabinet and listed it for $2,400. Bet the buyer was a reseller like that.

I should have bought some at the SC auction then. I didn’t realize the used demand was so high.

The usual price thrown around here for cabinet prices are $50/drawer is a deal but most generally list for sale at $100/drawer.
