In the process of putting up a 50 x 50 garage with my dad. We got the old local fire house garage and its been sitting out in a field for a few years. We finally settled on a 2 acre lot and so the build begins. I originally didn't plan on doing any sort of journal so I don't have as many pictures of the process as I would have liked. Here are some pictures for you all.

The front side is all new paneling and we decided to do a little stone. We still need to put the doors in a wire up the electrical. Also going to epoxy the floor after it cures then fill it with tools. Will have more pics once its completed. Thanks all.

50x50. Sweeeeeet. What are your plans for inside?

We will be putting in a lift in and some tools but other than that it's mostly gonna be a hang out. We are looking to put in a pool table and a mini bar and probably some arcade/pinballs down the road. THere is also a bedroom going in above the bathroom. I'll be adding more pics as the project goes on.

I've been waiting for someone to do this and post photos like you have! Thanks for taking time to share this! I have a 60x60 with a 16' eave height that I took down and have it in storage. I hope to pour the slab by early next summer and then put it all back together. I have been debating if I should paint the steel frame prior to putting it back together or wait till it is back up but paint prior to installing insulation and roof/wall panels. Please share any thoughts/ideas you have on this being you have been down this road.

In my opinion it really depends on how much time/resources you have. If you are a perfectionist and have the time and money the best thing to do would be to sand and paint them before you put them up. We decided to just to put all the beams up and paint the interior parts that would be visible.
I will say that it was a whole lot easier just to paint them after getting the beams put together. It's not perfect and if you look close you can see the imperfections of the paint but I'm ok with that. Some of our paneling was in bad shape too so we got all new paneling for the front and just painted over the sides. Didn't even worry about the back. Hope your build goes well and be sure to take some pics for us!

Looks great! The red beams and rock out front really stand out. For the in building wash space, did you put slope and a floor drain in? I have no experience with this, but one of the guys on another forum has the front of his shop sloped to a central drain, and they wash cars year round in there. Pretty cool. I'd love to have an inside wash bay that can double for 4 car parking when its not in use. Some day..

Thanks for your response and for the note about the panels. My plan is to try to reuse the wall panels but install new roof panels. Did you do all the work yourself (steel, insulation, roof and wall panels)? I have the shop drawings and would like to think it will go back together fairly easy.....I may not feel this way once I get started. I'll take plenty of photos and post them when things get started.

This has been mostly a family effort. We did hire a few hands for extra help on the roof and the stone work and other misc small stuffs. We also got lucky in that a nearby property owner actually erected this exact building when it was new many years ago and so he helped us out a lot. The only "professionals" we had come out was for the excavation, electrician, and a concrete company to pour the foundation. We saved lots doing the all the other work ourself and hiring cheap labor. Seemed like anytime we got a quote to do anything everyone wanted at least 10k. So we did most of the work ourself and its been worth it. Cant wait to get it filled with goodies.
