New to the forum and I was wondering if anyone knows how much room for negotiations there is in buying a new steel building. I was quoted $4794 for a 20x24. How much can I work them. That price is just for all materials. Thanks

Have you shopped around for other quotes. Chances are there will not be much wiggle room. 2% maybe, depending on the style of building.

Kind of depends on all the other stuff, door openings, insulate and so on. Your price is about $10/sqft which I think is pretty good. Try this site http://www.steelbuilding.com
It only let's you do a 30x30x10 and comes in at $7700, which is about $8.60 sq/ft but has no openings or insulation.

There are at least three different basic types of steel buildings, which type might you be looking to buy?

Typical steel construction using C channel, Z purlings and girts, steel sheet, some welded steel trusses.

or, carport like structure made from galvanized square steel tubing,

or the corrugated steel building with no structure, the steel skin IS the structure, many times built in Quonset style building.

And yes, as noted before, how many doors, what type of doors, windows, etc.

You also need to consider the slab and footings needed to properly support your metal building. When I was ready to build I checked into the particulars and found that all the metal building suppliers told me they could not supply slab and footing data because every locality was different, and I would need to hire a structural engineer to design my project. I simply went with stick built since everything has already been figured out and none of my local contractors had the necessary experience for knowing how to properly erect a tin building that was strong and didn't leak.

The price per foot generaly goes up as the size goes down. It still has to go on a truck and plans and reactions have to be done. 10/ft. isn't to bad for a basic building but we have no idea what that includes.
