R13 in the walls, ceiling fan, 2" foam board for a ceiling. Would this at least get the humidity out and keep it around 80 degrees or less? Building is under trees so it gets plenty of shade.

My uncle is getting central air put in and said I could have it so Im just wondering if its worth picking up. I know its not nearly the BTU's you would use to cool that SF inside a home but this is just a garage.

Get it. My garage is 24x48, and I can work comfortably in there with my 11k btu AC unit. My garage is well insulated. The 11k is really too small, but I use it only when I'm out there working, and even on the hottest days, the closed garage without the AC running stays in the mid-80s or lower. The AC unit doesn't have much work to do to keep the garage under 80 degrees, and I'm comfortable with that because it also pulls out the humidity.

It's too small but it could definitely help if if you had another one. Get it!

IMHO - 5K won't do squat in that space, sorry. I have a 6500 that can barely hold a 12x24 area with R13 all around at mid 80s. It's just really small. Might be OK if you are working right in front of it, but as for dropping the building temp - no, don't think so. You didn't say where you are - might work in Bismarck but it ain't gonna work here when it's 106 outside and the outside walls are 130F.

It probably won't do much for cooling, but it will dehumidify your garage. I have a 5000 BTU air conditioner that I use as a dehumidifer for my 40x60 in the winter, it works pretty well.
