So i purchased a Stelpro DRR 5000w ceiling heater and it only blows warm air! My hand is pressed an inch away from the fan and its only warm, the heating coils dont even turn orange..... WHAT THE FISH. I have a cheap space heater i bought for 20 bucks that produces more heat then this thing, am i missing something here? Is this how its supposed to work???

Have you tried running it for a while ? I have a 5000w Qmark heater and I dont think I have ever seen the coils glowing. The fan is blowing hard enough to get all of the heat off the coils so they do not get red. It does not feel real hot right in front of it but it does a good job heating up my 22x22 attached garage no matter how cold it gets outside.

I would let it run for a while and see how it does.

I dont see how you could have it wired wrong and the fan still work.

Ran it for about 5 minutes with my hand in front of the fan, my farts are probably warmer then this expensive ****

Measure amperage to make sure it's working as it should. Should read ~ 20A.
Ok ill try this, what if the amps are low, what could be effecting it? Its on a 30amp breaker, using the same gage wire as the heating units L1/L2 wires, i think there 10 gage

I should mention.... It was about 35° Fahrenheit in the garage and - 13 outside. But when I had my 5000w Ener-g ceiling heater that looked almost identical to this one, it blew hot air and heated the garage up to 60 within about 15 minutes.... The fan did start to hesitate after about 4 uses though, i just figured i got a lemon

I looked at the Stelpro website, and it appears the DRR ceiling heater can be set up for any voltage from 208vac to 600vac. Make sure yours is configured correctly, I assume you're running it on 240vac.

That’s likely the answer........normal temperature rise which most heaters are rated at about 40*-50* rise. 35* air in might equal 70-80* out. 5000 watts is not much of a heater to get a 35* garage up to working temps. Likely to take hours. Plus the slab and all the contents are ice cold. The slab alone would take a day or two to warm up to 55*

5000 watts is 17,000 btu. You did not mention size or insulation..........but.......Two or three car garage very well insulated and sealed might use a 45-60k btu NG heater.

As mentioned, bigger 5kw electric heaters rarely have "glowing coils". They usually have more powerful fans that circulate more, warm air instead of less hot air like small space heaters.

As mentioned, check the amps. If it's drawing 20 amps, it's working fine.

Hung a furnace from my agarage ceiling hooked up to 5kw. Air felt almost cool because of amount of air moving across. But it warmed garage. If it’s moving lots of air it’s probably correct. I don’t think the coils should glow either.

All of this ^^

Amp measurement is king here. If you are pulling 20 amps at 240V then 4800 watts is being consumed and 16378 BTU’s are being generated.

Glowing red coils are not desirable as this reduces heating element life due to thermal shock.

I think your all right, i figured it would have worked just like the previous Ener-g unit i had that blew hot air and the coils turned orange...... Maybe why it only worked about 5 times and then the fan started stalling. Very disappointing, i guess ill have to run it the day before to get the garage warm
