50x40 Shop build

Well since I have something to post I thought I would start a thread. My wife and I bought our house back in 2009. We originally were looking at new construction houses and just couldn't find one we liked in our price range. I knew I was not going to be happy with a standard three car garage. So I continued searching until I found our current house that needed updates. Needless to say the wife did not like it. But it sat on just about 1 acre of land and had an attached 25x25 garage. So I talked her into it knowing I could build a good sized detached garage.
Fast forward five years and the house has been remodeled completely inside and the wife couldn't be happier living in our small town. I finished the 25x25 garage with insulation, sheet rock, heat, a/c, air system, etc but I am out of room. I decided to pull the trigger on the shop I have been wanting for 10 years.
Ever since I bought the house I knew I could build a 30x40 garage according to city rules but I wanted as big as I could possibly go. So I took a chance and applied for a variance and pushed the size to 50x40. I also wanted 14 foot side walls so I could easily have a lift. City council had no problems with it as long as it wasn't a pole shed and matched the house. They also gave me a variance for a floor drain.
So enough with the rambling time for pics.

Sorry about the delay. Its been a long project doing it on the weekends and week nights. But getting there slowly. I moved some cars in to see how its sizing up. I wish I could have gone 10 feet deeper so I could double park and still have room up front. But I am not complaining. Can't wait to be up and working in it.

Thanks. This project has been an eye opener for me. It doesn't seem like it but its been a ton of work. I did pay someone to shingle it due to being just worn out after framing and sheathing it. I just want to get the exterior complete so I can start on finishing the inside.

I know you said you couldnt go with pole construction, but
Did you compare prices with pole construction?
just curious what the price difference might be as i am in the early planning stages and really like the footings and stub wall idea.

Looking back now if I could have I would have went pole shed. I would have saved on the framing material and the trusses. I would have also saved about 8-10K in dirt work and block work. Am I getting a better building doing it the way I am? I think so but its at a cost. Also if you can do a steel building you will save also. OSB and siding add up when you do a project of this size. I still would have gone with traditional siding due to it being so close to my house.

40x40 is still a big shop. I am hoping this one will suit my needs for a long time. Hopefully I can start moving in in April.

Updates!!!!
Siding, Soffit, and Fascia is complete. Garage doors go in Saturday. Then I can start getting everything ready for the floor.

You have plans for trenched electric and natural gas ?? Recommend an extra conduit in electric trench (after backfill of say 12") for low voltage like CATV/internet/security/phone.

That's a good idea. I will be trenching gas, electric, septic, and fresh water.

Not huge progress but I picked up insulation for the floor today. Hoping to start on the plumbing when it gets warmer next week.

Updates. Started on plumbing for the shop. When planning this project out it made sense to update the sewer line for the house since it was 50 year old clay tile. So it's a new line that goes through the house then out to the shop. I then tied the house into the new line. This update will also allow me to put a bathroom in my basement down the road.
