I'm building a 50x50 pole barn. I'm strugglling with the layout I should use...

It's a car hobbyist shop/repair/restoration....

As of now I'm thinking a 10x12 room in the back corner for a couch and TV and beer fridge.

I'm thinking two 4 post lifts near back wall and a 2 post next to them also. With 4 garage doors so a lift in front of every door. The first bay is where the room would be and in front of the room I'll be leaving room for a dyno for in the future. Then the other 3 will have lifts along the back wall leaving room for work benches across the back wall and corner area.

Do this should good? I don't have anyway to really draw it up for you guys...I owe 6 cars so I would be storing them in here and also room to work on them.

Just thinking out loud, If the lifts are on the back wall then you have to keep a clear path from the door to the lift preventing use of that floor space for permanent uses. It sounds to me like you should have a more rectangular building with storage on one end and shop area on the other end.

I also think that if you went with a rectangular you will find the trusses and roofing a bit cheaper. If you go with rectangular you can split the building and have heated workshop and cold storage. Some things to think about. I did it that way in my build below.

Yes I wish I could go longer but my township is only letting me go 50x50 max... I already asked them about 2500 square feet total and they said no... or I would do a 36x70... to really make use of the space lol

Just curious, I live in a communist Township and have run into lots of road blocks with the board in an attempt to build the garage I wanted. I got fed up and ran against the biggest stomper of rights from the board, and now I sit on the board with 2 others that still have a complex with being able to tell people no. Have you ever looked at your Township's zoning ordinance to see if what they are telling you is their personal wishes or actually written in ordinance? Its unbelievable how often these jerks just ignore the ordinance tell you what you can and can't do. Its satisfying to me now that I'm on the board. In just one month, I cannot believe the **** they try to pull, and I love calling them out on it and force them to follow the law. As a citizen when I tried to do that, my voice had no power and they just steamrolled over you. As a board member, its been different because now they have to listen when I call them out in a public meeting. Let me tell you, they must love their newest board member!

Any floorplan you plan now will be wrong in a year after actual use so I would try to keep flexibility in mind and be able to change things in the future.

There is a lot of truth to this statement. I've changed my 24x30 around at least 4 times as my work flow differs. Now I get to start over with the 36x40!
