Edit 1/22/2012....Came up with a better project name
I have been lurking here every since I started trying buy this B of A short sale over two years ago
We will be actually closing very soon. So I finally have allowed myself to start laying out what I want to see in my little toy house. This little toy house is a 50x80 metal building with 16 ft tall walls, it was built with four 12x14 roll up doors. There is nothing in it, a blank canvas.
There will mezzanines at both ends for storage at the west end and a fitness area above the east end.
I have made a point of separating the wood shop from the rest of the shop as I HATE saw dust on stuff. Yes I will have a dust collection system in there. The area adjacent will be for work that makes a mess (paint, body work, cleaning).
At the east end there is the area for the yard toys (5 acres needs bigger toys!!!!!).
As I once had a bicycle shop I will set up a work station for repairs. It will be modeled after how I had my benches set up at the shop. In the bathroom is a washing machine for cleaning the rags and treasures my wife would rather not find in her machine. So far the shop is fairly open with the two lifts and plenty of space to put projects. Still trying to decide whether to put work benches along the back wall or along the east wall.
I have been collecting pictures and ideas for many of the projects here. Once I get the basic plan decided I will start plugging away at it.
I used the SmartDraw 1 week demo to lay this out.
Thanks For Looking

Chuck,

Great space you will have...you might check out Nightrain's build...he has done a great job using a similar space and doing so with considerable style. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

flybefree: Thanks for the heads up.

I have saved his project for reference, others I really like are HIRSC's Garage Condo and E46M3's M house that are really well done. I save projects to a folder in my bookmarks with a note on what I find good. There is cool idea in most projects, the trick is combining them.

Huge space and a blank canvas, I am sure you will have a blast working with that shop!
It almost over whelming the amount of space, but it will be an adventure
I look forward to seeing what you do, I wish I had 16' ceilings, mine are 12' 6" and it stinks.
The walls are 16' the ceilings are higher. I also look forward to what I will really get done. It will take some time as we have to recover from buying the property. There a number of things to get done around the grounds before the shop gets to be a priority. Planing and saving will allow things to happen when the time comes

I have 30 x 60 and it definitely is not big enough. I keep saying ten more feet. My dad is building a 40 by 80 and we are all ready finding out it is "too small". Once you take out for the interior wall thickness it can change things a lot. I am only saying this because I was just standing in a 40 x 80 yesterday and I could not believe how small it felt when we started figuring placement of the lifts and looking at where other things were going. Your PDF looks huge, and luckily you can have full height second levels. You will definitely want to make the most of your height. You may also want to look into a bridge crane and a small forklift. I am very jealous, I wish I was the one trying to fill that floor plan!

Finally have had time to start to organize the shop a little.
It now has 27yrs of treasure(****) in it. It is amazing how much stuff comes out
of the places you have organized it into.. Initially I was trying to organize as I brought over loads, but towards the end it was just getting stuffed in the place.
I bought a couple of storage racks from Costco and made a three rack shelving
unit out of it. Brought over my self made parts cabinet (that used to be in my bike shop till I got the metal ones). Had the movers bring over the workbench (almost 16 feet long, really heavy!!).
Set up the cabinets and put the bench on the cabinets. The tool board is to organize hand tools. The work bench is planned to be temporary, until I get around to constructing the interior.
It is nice to be able to leave my projects set up, close the shop and come back to it later and not have to put every thing away each time.
Still plenty to do, but now that we moved, the other house is leased and I can spend more time at home. This will be a fun adventure.

This is a rename of my project, getting a space like this is a dream for many of us. My wife and I were very fortunate to be able to get this property. So my dream has begun.

Great amount of space... I'm sure many on here would kill to have that much room! Looking at your layout PDF, it seems you've done a nice job breaking it all up so that there's segmentation and project areas.

Nothing worse than your bicycles leaning up against your welder with a cat-back muffler balanced on top.... a little exaggerated, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about!
