I won a cool ratchet on ebay.
5257FL Proto
It's indexible, and it flexes.
Unfortunately, it only has 30 tooths. It seems like for a ratchet designed for better access, it should be fine tooth.

for this one yes, but for my other ratchets as well. It was dirty and started showing some signs of rust, so I think I got it just in time. I opened it as soon as I got it.

I have three MAC ratchets with the same head as the PROTO ratchet you have pictured. I use Sta-Lube SL3311 in each of them. It's a low viscosity grease with a light brown translucent color.

I apply a light film on the pawl and interior surfaces and then I apply about a thimble full on the gear itself. A light film on the back of the cover is good too. You want to be able to hear the mechanism click after you reassemble the ratchet; if it's almost silent, then you have too much grease.

Do you know what an acid brush is? They're nice for applying grease to various devices.

I'm wondering when SO will come out with a 80tooth version of their indexable, that'd be nice.

yes, i considered this ratchet as well, but have had other things that have been more of a necessity

i have the 3/8 and 1/4 spinflex proto ratchets, as well as a long handle 1/2 fixed head proto, and i like them all a lot

i know this is about the indexable head protos, but if any of you are considering the spinflexes, i cant say enough good things about them, very versatile

Indexable ratchets are a bit of a waste. I have one in 3/8 because I figured I would probably have a use for it but it has yet to prove itself as being necessary. I think the very few jobs I've used it on I thought it would be a little more convenient.

Now my ratcheting T-handle wrenches, those can save me some real time and do things other tools can't do.

I kind of had that suspicion. I thought it might come in handy, but I doubted how often I would actually reach for it. I still think it looks cool. Still wish it had a finer ratcheting action.
