I'm looking for a ceiling mount shop fan with as low of speed possible just to keep stagnant air moving. I can't stand the breeze of a fan on me while I work or papers flying around so the slower the better. I haven't had much luck finding what I'm looking for on Google or Amazon and was hoping someone here might already be running something similar in their garage or shop. We have Big *** fans at work that will go to basicly a crawl but even their smallest fans are a touch big and pricey for my application.
I only have room for about 72" or so wide fan max between my attic steps and the closest light but 60" would probably be ideal.

Pretty much any industrial fan and a variable speed controller.

Maybe just me but I have never seen a DC fan. Most house and shop fans use a PSC (permantent split capacitor) motor.

They can be controlled very effectively with the speed control, from a few RPM to full blast. The controller wastes a little bit of power as heat but not much, even controlling several fans it would get lukewarm but not hot. These controllers are solid state, works like a router speed control.

dc fans typically use 60-80% less electricity per cfm output and even more at lower speed settings. just like LED lighting, DC fans have only really started being more popular lately. Id put money down that you'll see them come down in price like LED lights have in last 10 years.

I have the Lowes 72 inch Fanimation. Moves pretty slow and if you reverse it, you will never know it's even on. Turn it up high and things start flying. Moves a lot of air.

I have twin old school hunter originals in my big space 32x50 -- they have sit on 6' down rods. On low they are great. Most fans have shallow angles blades with wimpy motors -- they have to move fast to move air. The old hunters have have stronger motors greater vane angle.

I have this 72” from Home Depot which can run very slow
Wouldn’t say it crawls but for a fan that size crawling won’t move any air at all.

It does have dc motor so basically no hum only problem it’s a bit pricy for a fan

I have this same fan, well I have the "older" version of it and got it for $200 when the "new" models started being stocked.

Mine has a 6 speed controller, the newer ones are 9 speed. Low speed is very low, and at high speed it really moves some air. DC motors are able to be run at very low speed compared to conventional AC fan motors.

Its a nice fan. Very energy efficient and mine is totally silent. Its rated for outdoor spaces, so I think it will do well in a garage/shop. Not really any more expensive than comparable "industrial" DC fans.

I'm still looking. that fan is an excellent deal for anyone needing a big fan and have room for it. Unfortunately with my available space I only have room for about a 72" fan or move it to where I have more room above garage door. All the similar dc fans in 72 and 60 inch are significantly higher priced which to me just doesnt make sense. hopefully sooner or later a decent deal on slightly smaller fan turns up. I could use it now but really dont need it until I'm done mudding, texturing, and painting or it will be in the way all the time working. That should be done within a few weeks tho.
