look good & have DEEP drawers @ 22" which for me is a big selling feature.
if I have the cash a week from now I may be picking one of these up.

Better deal the hf 56". Deeper, black, probably better quality and a full length drawer
Nice. Except for that stupid deep drawer lol

The real redeming factor of the international box is 1 key. No key for center/left, and 1 for right side.

WOW that is a great price. I bought the same thing 10 months used for $550, here in the states that is an $1100 box shipped to your door. Personally - I am looking to get out of it, it's OK for storage but the casters are horrendous. The drawer latches are plastic and even after buying $50 worth in new clips they still do not hold, there is something wrong with the slides. There is a horizontal doubler on the big top drawer halfway thru the center making it impossible to make larger items lie flat. The bigger drawers do have 2x slides on them however and seem to hold up quite well to being loaded up.

Overall, for the $$ it's OK BUT the HF 56" is a better built box. Heavier gauge steel, better casters, a better latching mechanism, and more quality feel.

Here it is the day I brought it home

great feedback
I doubt any local stores have them in stock to test out, so I appreciate the user experience. (nope just looked, online only)

the deep drawers are a huge feature for me, after trying out a Torin 56" @ TSC I can't go with anything less than a 22" deep chest (19.5" drawers)

will see if I can find one to play with, otherwise thanks for the feedbacm

Go to Sears. They sell the International boxes there rebranded Craftsman. Last time I went into one in Ottawa they had the 40" version which is similar.

I can attest the hf bottom weights that much. And I believe my top weights as much as the international bottom.

This gives me a bit of a dilemma. I need a box for home use and was set on the HF 56". But the hassle of driving across the border, the exchange rate, yada yada now makes this a viable option. I know it is not the same quality as the HF but, do I really need that in a home environment?

Here's the kicker: Lowes.ca sells it for $1312 shipped. HD charges ~$100 for shipping depending where you live. So the cost at HD is really ~$759. Lowes will PM that price less 10% making it ~$683. (You may get lucky and they will PM the BEFORE shipping cost if they dont catch it). Sign up for the Lowes email subscription and get 10% off your first purchase bringing it down to ~$615 shipped.

Decisions.... decisions.......

if you are near a TSC check out the Torin chests there.
quality seems very good, 2" narrower than the International, and bottom right "drawer" isn't ideal but for me it's the contender for now.
It's not on their website, they are discontinued, but in stock and plenty in warehouses I was told. Price is $699 tho...

I saw one but wasn't impressed. And at $699, it seems less of a deal. Especially if you go the Lowes route I outlined.

I've got a few of those International chests and like them very much (I don't move them around, so don't really high-end). Paying HD $100 or so for shipping is not good. I get them with the top chest for $1500 from Costco.ca with free delivery (in Canada). Last one I got in the fall happened to be a 'hot buy' and was $1,250. I don't mind the tall drawers - I make an insert to hold things like drills vertically. No digging or wasted space.

Agreed on the shipping. Especially if you buy the top box too. Shipping goes up to $150!!! even though they come from the same place.

Not really pertinent to your question, but I have been really impressed with the 56" top/bottom combo I got at Costco 5 years back. Torin brand with black coarse powdercoat, paid $1050 after tax. Gets rolled around a rough shop floor 5/6 days a week. Looks very much like the one you are considering. The deep cabinet comes in more useful then I expected.

I just checked HD and the 56" is $100 off, was $759 now $659. I'm seriously considering ordering this box, but i have to wait for my current tool box/bench set up to sell first.

I would also consider these combos as the price has dropped as well.

This is one grade higher in Internationals tool box line up....the Professional series. The good thing is you can check out the quality at Sears as it is the same as the Craftsman Professional series and they usually have these on display.

The Professional series is indeed one step up, but they do not have the deep drawers of the Value series. If you take one more step up, to the highest (Super Heavy Duty) of their five levels, I believe they are deep again, but the price climbs substantially.

well now, Lowes may get a call asking for a price match + 10% off tonight/tomorrow.
Plus I've got my email subscription 10% coupon still waiting to be used.

Wonder how cheap this will end up being?

called Lowes, they will price match AND take 10% off... but can't combine with email 10% off too.

should end up being $670 or so. Even if it is a bit flimsy, I don't plan on rolling it much, if at all, just want a big box I can store everything in, in one central location.

So they did not include the shipping? HD charges almost $100 for shipping.

Edit: Just got their 'Cyber Monday' flyer email. The price is back to $759 BUT the shipping is free now. So if you PM Lowes the final cost will be $759-10%=$683 + 13% tax=~$772 now.

Great point - the HF 56" weighs 440 lb.

Does that include the pallet and packing?

i got this 72" box from RK, and it weighs only 330 lbs:
72" RK Box

It's every bit of the construction of the HF boxes that I had been ogling for a couple years. I would have preferred a row of wider drawers instead of three rows of drawers, but for $800 I can live with it until the 72" HF boxes are more available and coupons appear.

I am on the phone right now, since I called last night and they quoted me then it was still on file... BUT now they are checking availability, stock, etc.

Hoping for the best, but life will go on with or without it.

Well last night I decided to throw my current tool box that was built in to a workbench for sale on kijiji and a the guy just bought it and left my house. So i'm now in need of a new tool box, I got a email from Canadian tire and the 54" mastercraft maximum tool box is going to be 50% off starting Thursday. Also TSC has the 42" Torin top/bottom combo on sale for $599 down form $1250. Or my parents are going to Manhattan this weekend so they could make a stop for me at harbor freight

Decision, decisions

just my opinion but...

having spent an hour or more testing a 56" Torin @ TSC, with 19.5" deep drawers... I couldn't buy the Mastercraft box with 16" deep drawers. I went out with the plan to BUY that day, but decided to check TSC before I dropped the cash... glad I did. I would not have been happy with the tiny drawers.

IF I had the opportunity to grab a HF 56" that everyone raves about, I'd be all over it. But the International 56"er seems to be a great deal for those of us up here who want a big box at a good price... withouth the ability to pop over the border and grab the HF one.

Update; called Lowes, they said there may be a problem since the price went back up @ HD. I explained that could happen anytime, if they delayed long enough prices would never be price matched... they are going to call me back tomorrow.

That's an easy decision. I have looked at the Mastercraft box and its VERY flimsy. Drawers edges aren't even folded over. Add to that the depth is only 16" or 17". Go have a look. There really is no comparison.

I say the 3 of us cross the border and negotiate a volume discount on the HF 56".

The thing about getting it over from the border is all that extra cost. By the time its in your garage it would easily be $1200 for the 56" HF box. I Think on my way home from work tomorrow ill stop in at TSC and see the Torin box. Regardless what I buy it will be leaps and bounds better then my ****** Husky boxes that I sold. I was waiting for the day when the drawer with my impact sockets and 3/4" drive sockets would break and fall onto my toes.

You're probably right on the HF box "to our door" price not working out in the end. Many never take that into account, the posted price just looks to good.

Problem with the Torin 56" box @ TSC, it's discontinued, BUT they only drop the price now and then, as of the weekend it was back up to $1300 or so.
When I talked to the TSC Canada rep on the phone, they won't be dropping the price lower than the ocassional $659 as that was their "cost" so he says.

Seems Princess Auto needs to step in an play friendly with their southern counterparts, and bring in truck loads of the HF boxes. Rebrand them, dif colours, whatever... seems they could sell boat loads.

Ya princess auto definitely needs to bring those tool boxes up here. A lot of stuff that PA sells is the exact same as HF except for the damn tool boxes. And the Torin i'm looking at is the 42" top and bottom combo. Its kinda weird because TSC is still selling the top chest of the 56" on the website but no bottom box anymore.

True about the final cost to bring the HF box up. Its similar to buying the International box vs the 'better' HF box and buying the HF box vs the 'better' SO/Matco etc box.

BTW, the price for the International is back down to $659 but the shipping is no longer free. So you should be able to get the box from Lowes at $670 all in again (if they miss adding the shipping fee). If only you can use that 10% email subscription coupon on top of that. I may try give it a go at my local Lowes.

After all is said and done, I think the International box is the way to go. So who's going first?

Called in again just now, and now awaiting another call back to confirm the price.
Never received a call back yesterday or today, so called on my own.

Wasn't expecting this to be so difficult.
Will still have to drive an hour in order to pick it up, as I will skip it if I have to pay for shipping.
