56" Montezuma Toolbox review

I posted earlier looking for recommendations on a bigger toolbox. I ended up buying a 56" 21 drawer Montezuma toolbox from www.strictlytoolboxes.com and thought it would be helpful to provide my feedback on the box. Dimensions are 56Wx20Dx62H

I must say, I'm really impressed with this box. Buying it on-line without seeing it in person made me a bit nervous, but after reading all the reviews I took a gamble and couldn't be happier. I outgrew my 26" Craftsman and needed a bigger toolbox. I started looking at used Snap-on's but couldn't find one for a reasonable price, and looking at the boxes at Sears left me unimpressed with the quality. The Montezuma is leaps and bounds ahead of the higher end Craftsman I looked at, and costs less too!!!. Quality is real good...better than I was expecting. The large draws have double ball bearing tracks and are reinforced under the draw for added strength. The draws roll real smooth and the box just looks great in blue. My only problem now if filling up the draws....there is so much space. All draws have pre-cut liners included. I wasn't a big fan of the www.strictlytoolboxes.com emblems so I took them off (one was a bit loose at the corner already). They came right off without much effort. The powder coat on the box looks nice and has a decent shine to it. The draw handles aren't polished, they have a bit of a dull texture to them which will show dirt/grime, but should be easy enough to clean.

The packaging of the boxes inside and to protect the boxes, on the pallet was very good. I received the boxes without any damage. Customer service was top notch. I ordered my box on a Monday afternoon, it shipped Tuesday morning, and was in my garage on Friday.

Comparing this box to my father's 41" Snap-on and I must say, I think the Montezuma is a better value given what you get for the price. Quality is also very good. Here are a few pictures (taken with my phone)

I have the same box and love it. I noticed that your put the fixed wheels on the left side of the box. I'm curious as to your preference for that over putting them in the center.

no real preference. seems to roll and turn fine with them setup like that. I've seen them done both ways, not sure what the pros/cons are to either setup

Damn I wish they shipped to Hawaii

they dont ship to hawaii but when i inquired about a box being shipping to oahu they told me they ship free to a freight forwarding company in LA of your choice and ship it over to hawaii at your cost. cheaper then having them ship the box from their location to hawaii.

They're DRAWERS. This is like the 800th billion thread/post I've read where someone calls the drawers of a toolbox DRAWS.

That's an amazing price, considering what you're getting and how much it must cost to ship. I hope they eventually come out with some stainless boxes.

Well get that new box loaded up and then use it for a month then finish this review. At this point it's just a poster. What are the draws (drawers) rated at? Place lifting weights in a drawer the feel how easy it moves ect.

I am looking into buying this toolbox. I see you state that the drawers roll nice and smooth.

How are the drawer "detents"?

Yes, the drawers roll nice and smooth. Even better when there are tools in them. The detents hold the drawers closed and you can feel them engaging/disengaging.

How can you review something you haven't used yet? What would have caused it to get a bad review? Shipping damage?

Shipping damage would have irked me, but it has nothing to do with the box itself. Flimsy drawers, poor construction, poor powedercoat, cheap look and feel. That would have gotten a bad review. I've seen and used enough toolboxes to know that this is a solid, well built box, perfect for my use. I like it even more now that I've been using it.

Theres a Sears here and I was there yesterday, but I have yet to see a montezuma box there.

They are listed online if you check sears.com, but it says sold through "RMV stores" They have the 18 drawer 56" for $1931.95. That same box is $1620 shipped at strictlytoolboxes.com. I have the 21 drawer which I don't see on the sears website.

will do. As of now I have most of the box loaded, and the drawers roll nice and smooth. The shallow drawers are rated at 100 lbs and the deeper drawers are rated at 200 lbs (with dual slides). I have one of the shallower drawers loaded full with 1/2 regular and impacts sockets, extensions, and a few 1/2 ratchets. The drawer opens and closes real nice. Seems to "feel" better with weight in the drawers.
