For the price, it's hard to beat it. I don't have one, but researched it when I shopped for mine. I ended up with a 2 stage 80gallon 4 horse 12.6CFM Husky (CH) from Home Depot. It's loud and runs forever. Not the best choice I made, but only costs me around $600 out of pocket tax+delivery because I had store credit.

Being a 5 horse with a 60gallon tank, I wold imagine it fills up pretty fast at least.

I think most all Harbor Freight Compressors are decent deals for the hobbyist after the 20% off. Just make sure you pay for the 2 years extended replacement warranty. That would give you a 3 year warranty.

I looked at one a month back. The compressor, made in Mexico, seemed to be of decent quaulity. The castings were cleaned up and the surfaces were smooth. It does not have pressurized oilng, though. The inlet filter just looked inadequet. The motor on the one at my local store was of U.S. origin so there's hope for maintainance parts at my local motor rebuilder. The port from the tank is only 1/2" pipe, but the bung is replacable. The pressure switch, gauge and belt guard seemed cheap, but so is the price.

I have the HF 5hp 2 stage 60 gallon compressor. While I have only had it for a week I love it so far. You can definitely believe the air delivery specs--it has no problem keeping up with any of my air tools including the paint I used yesterday or my sand blaster.

That's the unit I upgraded to last year. I gave it it's first real workout sandblasting last week. It kept up pretty good, I rarely had to wait for it while blasting some inner fenders, by the time I would readjust the wheelwell to a new angle, it would be ready. As for air tools, it catches up and shuts off with air ratchets, impacts, and 3" cutoff. I haven't really tested it with the DA, that's coming soon!

My buddy got one of these on the "el cheapo" special noted above. Still can't believe how cheap it was. He has been running a small two man body shop with it since then and it seems to be a nice compressor. No problems so far.

So...how many $640 compressors have pressurized lubrication? I've never seen one.

Hmm.. I wonder how the IR 5hp SINGLE STAGE produces 18.1 cfm @90, and the HF 5 hp TWO STAGE produces 15.8 cfm @ 90?

That IR is nice though but I don't like the 135 max psi. It would probably be fine for me though.

It is not a function of how many stages, rather how much displacement the pump has and how fast and how much torque is turning it. A big giant single stage with a big giant motor can make plenty of CFM.

It's a crummy pump (probably head design) IMHO. 3.1 cfm per HP for a 2 stage is not what I consider good. The IR at 3.6 is more like it, and closer to the 4 cfm per HP I like to see.
Still, if it fits the needs of the user and lasts.......

There are a LOT of negative reviews for the I-R SS5L5 concerning the motor. That's not to say the Harbor Freight unit is better, but I would google it and do some research on the SS5L5 issues before pulling the trigger.
