Hi. I have a 40x60x16 barn with a 20' wide loft up top and a 14x36 work area on the 1st floor. I spray foam insulated the roof line and I am slowly just batting/sheetrocking the walls. I have a 150k btu propane heater in 1 corner and I want to just install a 5ton package heatpump unit at the back. I was hoping I could get some advice/opinions/help/wisdom on putting a little AC in the barn. Nothing has been purchased or done right now (besides propane heater).
1. I prefer not to spend time or money on spiral ducting. Can I build just a supply plenum and put registers around it. What size would the registers need to be?
2. Is 18" flex big enough on both supply and return. FYI these would be boxed in and insulated on the outside of the building.
3. A goodman 5ton package heat pump calls for 20x25 (2) filters. Can I use a single 20x25x5 filter in the wall? Or do I need 2 return grills.
I was trying to go for an oversized window unit but I'm open to other ideas. I've thought about a split system with flex duct through out the barn and the blower in the attic of the loft. I'd have to get an HVAC guy out to hook it up.
