I want to build a 5x5 shed in a corner of my property that is not very visible. I want to put all my lawn equipment in it. After looking at resin sheds in this size, I believe I can build a sturdier structure out of wood for the same or less money.

Has anyone built a shed of this size by hand or have some plans that they went by?

I went with a 4' x 8' just as a way to reduce cutting sheet goods etc.

I built this with my daughters as a play house for them but years later it has morphed into my garden shed.

I put a deep 24" shelf in the back that I used to put the mower up onto (folded) for the winter and hooks and shallow shelves along one side. Works great and any extra covered square footage away from my garage is worth plenty.
Simple treated 2"x4" base frame with 3/4" exterior OSB flooring
2"x4" on 24" centers framing.
2"x4" ridge rafters on a 2"x8" ridge beam with 7/16" OSB roof sheathing.
T111 exterior
Door is just 2"x4" box frame with T111 sheathing.
simple and cheap

A 5x5 isn't very large, but people around here do build them that size. There made to look like old fashioned outhouses.

I don't have any plans, but I came to the same conclusions you did. I need a small shed, which doesn't show over the fence, for storing the lawnmower, rakes, etc. I like the plastic store-bought sheds well enough, but for that kind of money, I'd just as soon make something custom out of wood.

I was thinking of something more 4'x5'. I would put a door in the 'short' end, just wide enough to push the lawnmower through. Then put brackets for storing tools and stuff in the leftover space (think of it like a 1.5 garage...with a door to pull the car in and a few feet of room on one side to store stuff). I'd make the shed right next to the house (with about 2 feet of room, just enough to get in there to paint and trim out any weeds, etc.) I'd put a decent angle on the roof for rain runoff, and make the low side of the roof just tall enough off the ground for rake storage, etc.

I cannot imagine needing to frame this with full 2x4's...the little 2x3's at HD should be enough. Then just sheath it with a product which matches your house, paint it, roof it, and call it done. I'm just planning on putting patio pavers in for a floor...just enough to keep the mower out of the mud. I suppose your other option would to be to build it with a 'sledge' type floor (a couple of heavy wood joists, with a plywood floor, so you can drag the shed wherever you want, but then you need to build a small ramp for the mower too.

I've got a duramax shed, only downside, its not 100 percent leakproof, in wind the panels blow up...slighty. I built mine on skids, and intend on putting a metal roof on it. It should last a lifetime. They have some in the size you mentioned.
