Holding a 9" grinder up ,newbies think its a heavy lump, but once you push the trigger it sort of floats on the gyro effect ....no weight at all ,just wants to move sideways and turn steel into shower of sparks.

The one I borrowed years ago was a head and guide unit that used a large electric die grinder for power. The die grinder was another breaker-popper.

Don't forget to upgrade the wiring to 12 AWG, too. 15A breaker usually uses 14AWG.

If you're welding a lot of heavy metal, esp. plate, look into a dedicated bevel grinder. It'll make your life more pleasant and your welds more uniform. I don't own one, but a friend lent me one when we were building out the brewery and doing a lot of heavy metal.

True on the wire. I'm pretty sure the whole garage is 12ga when it was built, but I'll definitely make sure of it if that is the route I have to go.

I'm just a hobbiest doing some welding projects of my own and some for friends....I wouldn't be able to justify specialized machines.

Had to bevel the edge on this gin pole I'm making for the skid steer...ginpole.jpg
