6 Inch Sanding Discs: What Type?

I just bought a Dynabrade 6" 3/16" orbital sander. It uses the adhesive back sanding discs and i had some questions. Can i use any adhesive back discs for a pneumatic tool? It seems as if some discs are sold for electric operated sanders but I cannot see what difference it would make, am I wrong? I am I weekend mechanic only and plan to use it for general purpose body work: paint removal, prep, sanding filler etc... so I am only buying one sander and I need some discs that will cover my general purpose needs. Any recommendations on maker, grits etc... Thanks for any help, I tried the SEARCH function but didn't find the information that I was looking for.

By the way, got my Champion 5HP 60 gallon compressor delivered today! Had to sell off some other things and save for 6 months but I am glad to finally have it!

I usually only use 3M or Mirka brands on my DA. A few good grits to have on hand would be 80, 120, 180, 220, 320, and 400. Occasionally i've used 36 on mine but not very often.

At work we use 120 and 220 grit to prep aluminum parts for iridite and powder coat.

The brand we use is Norton, and its made in Canada.

You wont notice any different between sand paper. Ive been told my whole professional life that their are "wood sandpaper" and "auto body sandpaper" Yet Ive never noticed any difference. Ive used paper costing $1.50 a sheet, and some that was $0.10 a sheet and it is all about the same.

Until you start to get in the higher grits (600+) their is very little difference in the quality of sand paper.

You don't notice the difference between open coat & closed coat papers??

If I took the Pepsi challenge with them I doubt I would be able to tell any real difference. Ive used 1000's of sanding disks and honestly can't say that Ive ever been impressed by a type of sandpaper. Of course the higher brands such as 3m make better disc's that lasts longer and/or load up less then cheap ebay sanding disc's but as far as "type" and cut goes its all about the same to me when using orbital sanders.
