I recently striped a few stubborn nuts using my low quality everyday spanners, I was wondering why that happened, so I started reading and other then working properly with the wrench, which I did, the quality of my wrenches is probably to blame. I did a bit of research about 6 point combination wrench sets and I'm a bit confused about which ones are good, which are bad and which are great, at the same time keeping everything at decent price levels. Here are a few of the sets I was looking at:
Snap-On, 13 pcs, 7 to 19 mm: I guess they are the best. The down sides are the $400 price tag and the limited choice of wrench sizes.
Napa/Carlyle Tools, 13 Pc, 7-19mm: I have no idea what's the quality of these but they are almost the only ones that carry a full line of all the sizes of the 6 point wrenches, I guess they manufacture their own tools not just rebranding and marketing...
Craftsman 14 pc metric 6 pt combination wrench set, 6-19mm: Only $54 online, probably the best tool/$$ ratio.
Armstrong tools, 52-627, 14 pc 6-19mm: Currently on sale for $170.
Mac tools: No sets, just separate 6 point spanners, very high price point.
SK Tools, 7-19mm, 6 point, Long: Very nice set, currently on sale for $146 shipped. Also they have a regular length version for $115, could be a winner, no other sizes though.
GearWrench, 14 Piece 6 Point Full Polish Metric: The cheapest price point of all, are they any good?
So what do you guys think about quality Vs price? Any other options?
