6 Point Metric Sockets

I'm currently looking for a good set of metric 6 point sockets. I really prefer older Williams branded tools, but most of the sockets they made back in the day were 12 points. At the moment I have a set of brand new SK metric 6 point sockets as well as a Craftsman set, which I do like. I don't use my tools on a daily basis, but would just like to have the best sockets I can, as I would hate for a tool to break when I need it. SK seems to be a decent brand that is still made in the USA. My other choice for sockets would be Proto. Seems as though I'm never quite satisfied,; it's a disease, I suppose. Any other recommendations? Thanks!

Chrome or Impact

Does it have to be made in USA?

For your stated goal of having the best sockets you can, you've picked 2 of my top 3 choices; the other would be Snap-on, but I would look for a good price on them; not buy new.

There's a lot of good sockets out there; as you have found Williams is another good one. I have a lot of Williams, and used to use even more of them before I got matched Proto sets.

There's German and Japanese sockets that are also good; but I don't have direct experience with them; I've never had to look past SK, Proto and Snap-on to meet my needs. Where I live, getting other stuff would be bothersome. I can easily get my top three.

I have some new SK sockets, as well as older ones. I also have older Wright sockets. Your SK sockets should last the rest of your life. They are really good tools

Somewhere I read that SK sockets are cold forged. Cold forging is harder to manufacture due to the steel being stiffer (as opposed to glowing red hot). All other factors being equal, cold forging is supposed to result in a stronger part than a hot forged part.

On this one basis, you can consider your SK sockets the most advanced available. I like them because they feel good, are made by a good company, and they're really really shiny.

Well thanks for all the input everyone! I know it seemed like a redundant question and one that I already had knowledge on, but just wanted to see what other's opinions were regarding this. I'll just stick with Williams, Proto and SK.

Shallow chrome sockets is one area where the quality gap has narrowed almost to nothing between the truck brands and many other brands. Just about everyone has some type of off corner engagement and are pretty tough. The SK will serve you well and you can expand up to 26mm in 3/8 if you wanted to. I can't think of a reason to switch if the SKs are working for you :dunno:
Having said that, the current versions of Proto have really nice chrome, and large, deep size markings. They are pretty sweet.
Current Williams are also nice but, have small (at least to me)size markings.

I also have Proto,SK and Williams.I can't see in my opinion that any one of these out perform the others. The tool companies really compete with each other, which is to yours and my benefit.Depending on where you purchase, might be a deciding factor,if by chance you would need warranty.I've Emailed SK with questions and same day got responses about there product line. Now days customer service is important.Any of these will serve you and your kids well.Good luck!
