I have a set of Proto six points wrenches that I like a lot! Way cheaper than Snap On and you can get them from Zoro with a coupon code for a good price.

And I'd find a new friend....geez.

I have a set of USA made 6 pt craftsman wrenches that I bought about 11 years ago. They're fantastic, but craftsman stopped making them awhile ago.

Gearwrench now sells a few sets of 6 pt wrenches for a reasonable price. Not sure if they're a suitable replacement for SO ones though..

Shouldn't they be responsible for buying you another Snap-On set, or least a decent substitute?

Agree......

I lose or break something that I borrowed, I replace it with the same or better.....and even after that, I still feel like **** for losing or breaking the borrowed item.

To answer your question, what brands are prevalent in the UK? Though I think it should be replaced with a new Snappy set.

I have a set of the SK long 6pt combo wrenches that I really enjoy using. They're not super long, but they are longer than the normal SK combo wrenches. I've been using them about ten years, and I think they're really good for the money.

I’ve got the Craftsman USA 6pt too, but again they don’t make them anymore. Try eBay or get the Gearwrench sets

I burned Your steak; go hungry.
I burned Your steak; go buy a hot dog.
I burned Your steak; so here is a hot dog.
I burned Your steak: I put another one on the grille.

I lost Your Snap-on wrench set; tough ****.
I lost Your Snap-on wrench set; go buy some cheaper wrenches.
I lost Your Snap-on wrench set; so here are some cheaper wrenches.
I lost Your snap-on wrench set; I will buy You a new Snap-on wrench set. (My choice)

30-some years back; I asked a co-worker for My Snap-on test light He had borrowed.
He rather blew Me off by saying "Sorry, I must have left it under the hood of a car I was working on". I told Him the price, and when the Snap-on Dealer would be stopping. He checked the customer parking lot for that car, and came back in to tell Me the car was gone. I strongly suggested to track down that car, and find that test light before the customer finds it wrapped up in the belts or fan blades. He didn't want to hear that, but begrudgingly asked the shop office for help in tracking down that car. He then left the shop and returned about 45 minutes later with My test light. I then advised Him to buy His own tools; as the welcome to borrow Mine had grown rather thin. It was not My responsibility to supply Him with tools in the first place;;;;;; but that was something that I had to tell Him straight out... Yes;; He was not happy to hear that the free ride was over.

That Guy owes You a new set of Snap-on wrenches....period.

I'm so used to using Snap-on wrenches that anything else feels foreign in my hand. I would hate to improvise by having to use something else.

I was looking for six point spanners in the UK a while ago. There isn't much to choose from. All I could find was Snap on, Gearwrench and old stock Britool. I purchased two Britool to try and they are ok but short.
Would be interested to know if any others are available.

I think he just wants to know what set of wrenches would be a good alternative to the ones he no longer has. He didn't ask how we thought he should feel about the whole situation.

I think the SK suggestions are good. I also like the USA Craftsman, I actually have several sets that I picked up cheap on Ebay. I suspect they are still fairly easy to find from US sellers.

Harbor Freight does not really carry much 6 point, which I needed for some drivetrain work, so I broke ranks and went with a set of Carlyles, for $100US.

They looked flawless and worked just like wrenches.

All the options everyone here mentioned would be suitable. I guess my question is what does suitable mean? Or, what it is about SO 6-point wrenches that makes them the gold standard?

My opinion is that there are plenty of brands that are of equal quality and sometimes better than SO... especially in the wrench category. I've had both the SK and Gearwrench sets mentioned above and they're fantastic.

Why no make the person responsible for losing them replace them though? That's the real question here.

No offense SO fanatics.. but they're just not as superior as some of you make them out to be. Having said that.. I do totally understand brand loyalty.

I agree on the SO, unless were talking line wrenches. That's really where most folks agree that SO could be the gold standard

Not sure if Stahlwille makes similar 6pt wrench sets, but there 12pt are great and can be had a fair bit cheaper that SO. Might be worth a search. Sorry your SO wrenches were lost/misplaced, sounds like your a nice friend.

He needs to replace them with SO or equivalent. Period.

This is why you have cheap tools as well for lending/modifying. I've been using the Crescent brand chinesium combo wrenches for the past year pretty hard and really like them a lot. They're like $10 for a full set up to 19mm.

Seeing as your from the UK, tool trucks, or Britool old or Britool hallmark, Laser, Sealey, then all the US brands like Proto/SK so on.

Best quality for money would be the Taiwan Britool Hallmark
Laser then Sealey.

US Bands + Tool truck are obviously much better.

The man (if he is your friend) should ask you how he goes about ordering you a new set of exact replacements. Isn't that what you would do if you lost his tools?

The OP has determined the tools are gone. That means the guy who lost them isn't replacing them.

Just wanted to clarify that for everyone who keeps suggesting he have the guy replace them.
