$60 Screwdriver set for my son--Recommendations

I've been using some of the Wiha soft touch or whatever they're called and have been happy with. I also have the NAPA set which seems nice too. And the Wera basic set everyone talks about. Not real fond of how the Wera feels. They are my least favorite. I also have the older Craftsman set that everyone seems to have had. Don't like how they feel either. I have ordered a Vessel PH2 and absolutely love it. I have larger hands and it just feels like it fits best. I think I will be getting some more of the Vessel. Really like how their woodies look, but haven't actually had any in my hand. For what it's worth, I use screwdrivers as screwdrivers. I don't beat on or abuse them. Honestly, I think screwdrivers are a lot like handguns. Everyone's hands are different. You really have to try them to see what fits you best.

Vessel are my favorite cross point screwdrivers too.

NAPA has these on sale a couple times a year for $20... I got a set as my shop drivers, expecting them not to last, but they have worn like iron. Serious beans... I did NOT expect a set that good.

Not sure the COO, but for the money, and for as bulletproof as they've been... ESPECIALLY when they're in the $20 tool grab bin, I don't care. The downside is you may have to go to NAPA and pick them up there, and send them yourself, but worth it? Absolutely.

Definitely a good buy, have bought a few sets when on sale. Love the handle shape, and they have held up very well.

My current favorite is Vessel. The Tekton hard-handles are quality as well.

Ordered some more Vessel drivers and a single Duratek last night.

I just saw the Tekton hard handles at the store today, they are nice! They almost feel like a slightly scaled down version of the Williams. I also picked up one of their high torque drivers and their trilobular design doesn't feel nearly as funky in the hand as it looks, I think I might have to buy a couple of each.

I own the Williams hard handle screwdrivers, they are equal to my snap-on set but a fraction of the cost. The Williams would be my first choice. Very high quality steel, chrome plating looks great, fit your hand and the tips are amazing. Going to take out any tough screws and last for many years.

Other potential options could include Channellock (yes they sell screwdrivers too) or Wright Tool

I have craftsman, but I just don't feel the same about the brand since they sold out and moved overseas.

I did go USA & ordered the Klein 8 pc set (slotted/philllips) via Amazon for $60. Thanks for all the suggestions. I own a Klein multimeter & some snippers, they seem to be a quality brand.

Truth be told, my son is messing with a used washer/dryer set. Dudes, I hope he doesn't electrocute himself. I've already warned him about it, and I like the rubber handles of the Kleins. I doubt that will protect against a 220 volt jolt, but dad bought him the Kleins.

I did the same for my step daughter I think it was her 16th birthday got her a toolbox with all the basics to do general work on the car and around the house.
She was embarrassed at the time but 16 years later she still has them uses the and has added to the collection. she has more tools than her boyfriend who barely knows how to change a flat tire.

I have Snap-on instinct, Snap-on hard handle (Williams) and Wera. I would put the Wera dead last even against cheap drivers. They are great when you need torque but very slow when you don't. The Williams would be my choice in your price range. Mine are 40 some years old and still in great shape other then the ones that had the handle problem. They also offer the option of using a wrench on the shank. That is confidence in your product.

I am probably going to get flamed with this comment but . . . . I really don't like people getting me any kind of tools for presents. Unless of course I have dropped a hint to a particular tool Screwdrivers in my opinion are a very personal choice as far as type of handle etc.
Get him a gift card and let him pick his own tools

The PB Swiss are my favorite, over my Proto, Wiha, Wera, Klein, Expert, or other sets I've ended up with over the years.

You know, if I had it to do all over again, I'd probably buy a high end handle and it's associated bit set or blade set. I bought one of those roll-up PB Swiss sets back when they were way cheap on Amazon (gold plated! whoo!), and I basically use that anymore except for the rare occasion on really large sizes. For ratcheting screwdrivers, the Apex/Wera sets are pretty cool and come in a box.

You get compact plus the ability to expand into torx, etc.

But then, I don't use screwdrivers to open paint cans.

My nice set of screwdrivers you got him. Those should last him a long, long time. My go to set is a set of Vaco orange handled USA made screwdrivers, and I added the matching Torx set too.
